Time to bury the beast (KYI W/O).

Date of Review:  Jun 13, 2005
The Bottom Line: Despite conventional wisdom, a rather mediocre album.
Review: Conventional wisdom on the 70s says they were a decade of decadence. From most historical accounts, that conventional wisdom is correct. Conventional wisdom on the Eagles, one of the leading bands of that decade of excess, says that they made mostly...

A transitional album

Date of Review:  Jun 23, 2000
Review: Hotel California can best be categorized as an example of a band in transition. This is the first album recorded by the group after Joe Walsh became a full-time member, and it was probably the beginning of the end for the group's long-time bass...

California Hotel Guide… vacation planning bliss

Date of Review:  May 25, 2002
The Bottom Line: Didn';t even mention a place to get good potato salad in all of California
Review: This all began when I was feeling stressed out at work. I?ve had too many 10-hour days (while only getting paid for 8). So, I decided that it was time to get away for a few blissful days. I knew I couldn?t be away from work for too long and so I?d...

Welcome to the Hotel California, such a great cd

Date of Review:  Mar 21, 2001
The Bottom Line: For over 25 years I have loved this tape, and only the best survive that long. I recommend it to those who want the best music of all time.
Review: As a child I remember my parents owning an 8 track tape of Hotel California by one of the greatest group of singers out there, The Eagles. Usually, I didn't care much for their taste in music but when I heard this tape, I just fell in love with it...

What are "colitas" anyway? And what do they smell like?

Date of Review:  Dec 20, 2005
The Bottom Line: NOT the awesome album everybody says it is. It's mostly slow and boring, with really long ballads. A legacy built upon two, three, maybe four really good songs.
Review: When it comes to The Eagles, just about anybody can name a half-dozen of their greatest hits. Before Springsteen and Mellencamp paraded into our consciousness, The Eagles were almost the voice of Americana itself, albeit with a heavily white-bread...

"You can check out anytime you like..."

Date of Review:  Nov 30, 2000
Review: The Eagles' amazing transitional album Hotel California literally took me by surprise. I am 20 years old and of course I had heard the song Hotel California before, but after owning the Eagles Greatest Hits 1971-1975, I bought the Hotel California...

Check In... You'll Never WANT To Leave

Date of Review:  Apr 13, 2000
Review: This was the album that certified, 100%, beyond a doubt, that The Eagles were THE band of the 70's. Having overcome inner turmoil, the launched into "Phase Two" after the release of a Greatest Hits album that many felt spelled the end.

The Perfect Rock Album

Date of Review:  Apr 28, 2001
The Bottom Line: Buy it or go bungee jumping without the rope.
Review: "Hotel California" is probably the only song which you would hear even in places as obscure as a roadside tea shop in Southern India.

The album speaks volumes of the songwriting ability of Don Henlet, Don Felder, Joe Walsh and Glenn Frey...

On A Dark Desert Highway...

Date of Review:  Dec 16, 2000
Review: Some people consider "Hotel California" a pivotal album, an essential rock recording. Others consider it ponderous, heavy-handed and over-rated.

Truth be told, "Hotel California" is a flawed masterpiece, an immaculate collection of songs...
