Borrowed it from my parents
Date of Review: Jul 30, 2006
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this product to anyone from age 12 to 90, it's that easy, and it does the job. My carpets are noticeably clean, to the eye and nose.
My parents sold a home and before leaving, cleaned their entire home with the unit. They are in their mid-60's, but are tech-challenged somewhat. . they don't own a DVD player. . took them 3-4 months to navigate a new flat top stove. . .how to make ice in their refrigerator. . etc. This unit was so easy to use, my father was able to explain how to use it to me, 1 year after he used it, without consulting his owner's manual. This speaks tons of praise to the simplicity of the unit. I borrowed it one day on a whim after painting their gargage floor for them. I had been putting off renting the rug-physician, and dragging out my green canister contraption, which both are steam cleaners, but are the most annoying and/or HEAVY things to use!!
I am impressed with all parts of this unit. The fill tank is light, and small enough for someone who's working on their carpets all day. The measuring cup for the cleaning solution is also the lid, and it doesn't require finger muscles to seal properly, or to unseal. The dirty water tank is even better. . it snaps onto the unit completely and without any leaks with hardly a push, and has a great handle to carry the yukky stuff to the designated dumping station. All necessary parts are clear enough to see thru to help you know when you're about done with this gallon of cleaning. I used it on my whitish berber carpet in most of the house, and it was pretty dirty. . I have 3 kitties. I estimate it took about 5-6 hours to clean a 1500 sq foot 3 bedroom home. My vaccuum missed some hair, and the unit picked it right up and deposited it on a small square screen that one should clean off when emptying the dirty water receptacle.
I even steam cleaned a pillow top mattress with the unit. It really wasn't that heavy to lift on top the mattress, considering it was a steam cleaner. If I did that regularly, I'd probably complain about the weight. It cleaned the mattress beautifully.
I do not have a staircase, so cannot speak for using it in that manner, although I did use the upholstery attachment, which was put together awesomely, with all the hosing cleverly anchored around the back of the unit. One only has to snap the head to the hose to begin using it. I was a little dissapointed at the small amount of fluid which sprayed from the head though.
I should mention the handle as well. . sometimes they just don't fit in your hand comfortably. They can be too big, and then your hand starts to ache . .the trigger can be out of place and you have to strain to reach it. BUT NO. . the size and angle of the handle, and the location of the trigger for the cleaning fluid seemed to be made for a woman's hand!! I could use it everyday and my hand would not tire.
It's sitting at my house now and I don't want to give it back!
