Author's Review
I looked at a variety of vacuums in stores around our area, including a specialty vacuum shop at which they attempted to sell me a $600 model, before I found this unit only.
The C2094 is a portable from Hoover's commercial line, but it works quite well for a home vacuum. It's slightly heavy for a portable (a little over 8 pounds), but has surprising suction for its size. It's comfortable to carry by the handle for short periods, but I usually use the shoulder strap; this is especially useful when doing stairs, since you can hold on the the handrail with one hand and vacuum with the other, and you don't have to worry about balancing the vacuum on a stair tread.
It works very well on our two orientals: it's strong enough to clean them well, but doesn't pull off the fringe if you happen to hit it. I was a little concerned that the plastic on the floor nozzle would scratch our hardwood floors, but it appears to be fine. I wasn't planning on using it on the tile floor in the bathroom, but it picks up all the hair and lint there very handily.
One annoyance: when the vacuum arrived, I wasn't able to install the clip that holds the strap through the portion of the case it clips to. I eventually resorted to opening the hole in the case up with a power drill, and was able to get the strap installed that way, but I shouldn't have to do that. There's plenty of room in the shipping carton to install the strap before shipment. Hoover?
