There's a misnomer about living in the Seattle area: People think that it rains year-round. As a result, very few people have air-conditioning. Then when summer arrives and we have days that reach 90 degrees, the community flocks to their neighborhood Target or Wal-mart and buys up all the fans. It's a ritual that we participated in when we first moved here and as a result, we have the
Honeywell HT-800 Table Fan.
•• What it is ••
The Honeywell HT-800 Table Fan is an 8-inch diameter black fan with 3 speeds.
•• Features and Commentary ••
The Honeywell HT-800 Table Fan is a small table fan. It is made of black plastic and has a wide sturdy base. The plastic is thick and the unit looks and feels completely solid. The fan is only 8 inches around, but it is surprisingly deep, which explains why it is so effective. The deeper angle of the blades pushes more air and as a necessity, the fan chamber is very deep. This is no slimline fan. The angle of "fire" is adjustable up and down and each position gives a satisfying click. After several years of using it, we've seen no sign of slipping or loosening of the angle. In other words, it still holds the angle we set it at with out slowly creeping down.
The fan has 3 speeds which are accessed by a small knob on the back. The low speed is moderate and the medium seed is impressive. But the high speed will blow the color off your carpet (not really). It really pushed the air which is what is so impressive about this small fan. We have a large box fan, but we found that this fan does a better job. Plus it's quieter. With a fan pushing this much air, it isn't silent. The motion of the air moving creates a healthy whooshing sound that is difficult to converse around, much less watch TV. But the fan itself has no noticeable motor sounds, rattling, or bearing noise. As far as the fan is concerned, it is near-silent. The sturdy base aids in stability under the force of such power. We've never had any stability issues.
The Honeywell HT-800 Table Fan is mountable on a wall, but I've not needed to use it for that purpose. I opt for an oscillating fan if I want to cool off an entire room. This is not the fault of the fan, as it was not meant to be an oscillating fan.
The cord is a respectable 6 feet, long so you'll want an extension cord if you plan to use this very from from an outlet. The only complaint I have is really a testament to the power of the fan. It gets dirty very quickly. The fan blades are crusted in dust and the rear intake area is covered in dusty. The rear area is easily cleanable, but the blades are not so since there is no easy way to get in the fan housing. Luckily, the dirt has not affected the motor or made it noisy.
As a side note, the fan has a convenient little handle on the back if you need to transport it. Since the fan is not exactly heavy, this is a nice, if not entirely necessary feature.
•• Conclusion ••
If you are in need of a fan to get the air moving in your house, look no further than the Honeywell HT-800 Table Fan. This circulates air as well as any oscillating floor fan we've used.
