Author's Review
The Buggs have lots of fans around the house. The house is big and doesn't have the best air circulation so we keep a few fans on every level to keep the cool air moving around in summer and for white noise in the cooler months.
Last year the fan in our bedroom started making odd noises which were keeping me up at night so I replaced it this year with a brand new Honeywell Platinum Air 16 Inch Premium Remote Control Stand Fan that we really like. We like it so much we plan to get another.
I found the Honeywell at my local Walgreen's for $35. Regular retail price is $40. It caught my eye in the weekly sale flyer as it contained the word "remote". Yep, we're lazy and needed yet one more remote controlled electrical appliance. But honestly, sometimes I'm laying around napping or watching TV and the fan needs to be turned up, down, or off and the remote saves me from actually getting out of bed to do so.
About the Honeywell
The Honeywell has lots of features for a fan. It can be set to oscillate to circulate air throughout the room or remain stationary. The head tilts as well to direct air flow upward or downward. The blades are a special high velocity design made to move air efficiently and effectively and move more air than normal fan blades.
The fan has three speeds - high, medium, and low. It also has what is called sound therapy breeze mode which simulates gentle outdoor wind flow by running at various speeds. The Honeywell also has a timer so users can program the fan to run for 2, 4, or 8 hours.
All three speeds, the breeze mode, and the timer can be controlled from the small black remote control that comes with the fan and which runs on 2 AA batteries (included).
The fan stands on a wide, round base which adds extra stability.
My experience
We are really happy with this fan. It was very easy to assemble and I love the way it looks. The outer cage and the pole are made from plain stainless steel. The rest is made of black plastic. So the design is very understated and sleek. Although the disc stand is wide and takes up room on the floor, it keeps the fan sturdy and there are no sharp legs or parts for me to step on or stub my toe on in the dark. The stand is slim and low profile as are the blades. The blades are sleek, slim, and straight and take up very little visual space. Nothing like those large clover shaped blades that practically cast a shadow on the room. When the fan is off the blades look like the Mercedes symbol and don't take up much visual space at all.
The fan operates on high, medium, and low and also has a breeze function. This function is supposed to simulate a real-life outdoor breeze by alternating between the speeds. It's an interesting function but kind of odd. It almost seems that the fan is malfunctioning as it blows its way thru the speeds but it really feels good to have a breeze of varying strength circulating thru the room rather than just one speed blowing constantly.
The fan also has 3 timer settings - 2, 4, and 8 hours. The fan will automatically turn off after the selected time has elapsed. All functions are also available on the small remote control that comes with the fan that also comes with the 2 AA batteries that are required to operate it. I love it when a product comes with batteries included because I never remember to buy them at the same time I'm buying the battery operated device and have to make a separate trip.
All functions can also be operated from the stand. The cord is nice and long as well which makes it easy to move around the room and position the fan in just the right place.
We mostly use the fan on low as it puts out plenty of air and good circulation on that speed but once in a while we use the breeze function just because it's so interesting and the sound is very soothing while trying to fall asleep.
My only complaint about the Honeywell fan is that it is loud. Louder than it should be. When I first plugged it in and set it to low I swore it was on medium as it was quite loud but after I got up to check it truly was on low. But it works so well in all other ways that I'm keeping it, I recommend it, and I will be buying another when they are in stock again at Walgreen's.
