Good choice Midrange Humidifier

Overall:
The Honeywell 645 Cool Mist Humidifier does its job and does it well. I use it in a smaller room than it is rated for, a medium sized bedroom (about 160 sq ft.). It quickly gets the room to the correct humidity within about a half an hour. Once the room gets to it’s the proper humidity, the humidifier seems to turn on about every 30 to 40 minutes for around ten minutes before shutting off. My digital hygrometer on the other side of the room confirms that the room humidity is always within 2 to 3% of the set humidity level.

A cool mist seemed to be a logical solution for me as I wanted the ability to use it in a larger room if I ever decided. I love the humidity setting; it makes it very easy to control the humidity in your room without having to manually control it. Before this humidifier I purchased a smaller Holmes product that worked well but had no ability to monitor the humidity in the room, it was difficult to remember to turn it on and off manually, prompting me to look for one with a built in humidistat. Before buying a humidifier whichever brand you choose, make sure it has a built in humidistat they’re worth the extra money.

I have less dry skin here now during Michigan’s cold dry winters, it really makes it easier to breathe as well. I am somewhat afraid of creating mold so I usually keep it at the 40% relative humidity setting. Only real problem is it could be kind of loud even on its low setting for some people to sleep near. Every night I fill up the almost empty water tank.

The Good:
• It’s affordable; I purchased mine at Target for just under $50.
• The filter only needs to be changed every other month compared to every month with some humidifiers.
• The humidity level setting is a lifesaver; it really adds to the ease of use and is accurate.
• Its low maintenance, I usually pop mine in the dish washer once a week.
• Filters are easy to change.

The Bad:
• Filter still may grow mold even with the special treatments they receive.
• Sometimes the lid to the tank doesn’t go on easily and it drips some.
• To noisy to sleep with.
• Tank only lasts a day on one fill up, and I use it in a small room.
• Can’t find the Pro-Tec cartridge they recommend anywhere in stores.

Tips/Advice:
Cleaning your humidifier regularly and thoroughly is the key to preventing bacteria growth. Consider using a bacteria inhibitor in the water.

Buy the replacement filters in multi-packs to keep the costs down.

Close the doors to the room that your humidifying to prevent escape of humidity and lower the amount of time the humidifier is on.

Note:
Water with heavy minerals may clog filter prematurely.
