Product Review

2004 Honda Accord LX V6 - Read review from someone who drives a ton.

by   nonedude ,   Oct 18, 2007

Pros:  Handling, Road Noise, Great Fuel Economy for V6, and more!

Cons:  Windshield wipers (original & replacements) do a so-so job of cleaning in dry weather.

The Bottom Line:  Bottom line is Awesome Dependable Vehicle, Period.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

Background:
I bought the 2004 Accord Sedan LX V6 brand new in April 2004. I now have 110,000 miles ( ) on it. I drive for a living, I do 50 to 200 miles a day. Usually around 100 (5 days a week). I start the car up 6 - 12 times per work day because I make multiple stops. I drive half highway and half back roads. You can tell I put a lot of stress on my car and that's an understatement.

Current Situation:
As of today (10-18-07), my car rides smooth and interior noise is quiet. Engine sounds like it did the first day I bought it (quiet, yet powerful). I replaced the tires all around once, replaced the battery, switched to synthetic motor oil a long time ago, do my own brake jobs (4 wheel disc is so easy to maintain), and other minor maintenance which all cars need. No major problems.

Mechanical/Comfort Notes:
Transmission is smooth when shifting (still!). All controls are very well laid out and I love the LCD speedometer/dash gauges. They are so easy to read whether it's bright daylight or 2am in the morning. I am always comfortable when driving, that's saying lot since I generally spend 5 hours a work day inside my car. No back pains, no foot pains, arm, etc.

The V6 model has 240HP and generally gets 30 miles to the gallon for the driving I do. That is very impressive! The engine can get up and go quickly, I've blown away many vehicles including some sports cars with ease, just for fun. I don't make it a habit though.

Here is something you should know: I have not replaced the spark plugs, the starter, the alternator, or even the serpentine belt. I checked the serpentine belt a few weeks ago and it's in excellent condition! I felt no cracks or tears etc. That's amazing considering my mileage and heavy usage!

Future Maintenance:
I should get a tune-up soon. Just because! Not cause I feel I need one, but I am passed the Honda 100,000 mile suggested tune-up. Spark Plugs and Wires are original. My primary concern is always typical maintenance like: Oil Changes, Air Filter Cleaning (K&N is re-useable), Brake pads and fluids, Tire Inflation, Wipers, etc.

Recommendation:
I recommend getting the K&N air filter for this vehicle, it will slightly improve Horsepower and MPG and save money down the road over replacement filters.

Additional Notes:
This is my first Japanese made vehicle ever owned. I have previously owned Ford, Chevy, Plymouth, and Buick, none of them impressed me enough to buy again. I will never buy anything but Japanese again. Notice how Honda is a forerunner in the technology field. It's not even close. Toyota's are obviously good choices also.

Notice how Honda does not compare itself to other vehicles in car commercials. Doesn't that tell you something? Many other car manufacturers will bring up Honda's name in their TV or Internet Ads and say they do one or two things better or cheaper. If you are considering a Honda, do it because you want better than average in all categories. Whether it's comfort, or MPG, or Power, or Storage, or Maintenance Cost, or Technology, etc.

This Accord will not let you down! Unless the previous owner intentionally harmed it, ha ha.
