Civic HX 41 mpg and power everything...enough said

I bought a '98 Honda Civic HX in early 1999. It was a new model that was just not cleared off the lot so I got a great deal on it. All I can say is, "This car gets great gas mileage!". I have a manual transmission and have gotten up to 41.2 mpg on a highway trip from Knoxville, TN to Cincinatti, OH. Keep in mind that I was traveling 70-80 the entire time too, so I would say that if you were going around 60-65 you could get up to 45 mpg.

The HX is loaded with many of the great features that the EX has. It comes standard with power windows and locks. Along with that comes powered sideview mirrors. The leg room is plentiful for both the front and backseat passengers and the driving position for the pilot is fully adjustable for any size person. The center console and glove box offer ample room to store things. There is a nice cup holder too at the base of the center console.

I used to own an MX-6 sports car that had a so-called backseat. I got nothing but complaints from my passengers in the back asking me to move my seat up because their legs were being turned into pancakes. Ever since I have had the Civic people love to ride in the back. Which seems to put me at a loss because now I am driving everywhere!

The engine is peppy with 118 bhp, but it does lack some of the low end torque. This makes for shaky starts when the engine is calling on torque that it just doesn't have. At high speeds though the Civic is in its element. It travels along at interstate speeds very quiet and suprisingly responsive for a 4-cylinder. The only problem I have with the interstate driving goes back to the low torque. If you are traveling in mountainous regions you may be required to shift into 4th gear to make it up some of the steeper grades without dropping below 55 mph.

I have had no problems with my Honda (suprise, suprise) and the service has been great. I somehow lost a bracket that was holding the radiator in place and the Honda service department replaced it and even gave me an extra one in case I lost that one. My car now has 30,000 miles on it and that is the only time it has seen a service shop except for routine maintanence.

The Civc HX is a great buy, ecspecially with the raising gas prices!
