Author's Review
After my 45 mile journey home from work one day, my little Ford escort started smoking, and I decided it was time for a new car.
I immediately went on a search for the perfect car. I have a 90 mile round trip to work and back, so gas mileage was of up most importance. After driving Accords, Grand Prix, and even a Jetta or two, I decided to try a Civic. This car left me with a feeling of satisfaction.
When they pulled my Green Machine out from the service department I knew it was mine. I immediately shouted,"look it even has a spoiler!"(it was just too cute). I took out for a whirl, almost scared the living you know what outta the dealer when I got third gear scratches out of it. Even though it only has 127 HP I was surprised at how quickly the Manual trans got it up to speed. We took her around a few twists and turns, she handled magnificently.
We returned to the dealer, and later that night I brought her home. I was so excited I wanted to sleep in it. In the first month I drove everywhere. I put 1000 miles on it in the first three weeks. I have had the car now for 2 months, and haven't had a single regret.
Overall The price tag was a little more than I was looking to pay for a 1998, but for a 1998 in San Diego it only had 50,000 miles on it. Thats amazing for around here. My 1997 Escort had 194,000 when it took a dump.
This car in the end handles well, is quick, stereo is good, even though is not a stock deck, the speakers are stock. I love all the options, power everything, sunroof, manual trans, full floor mats with Civic embrodiered on them, and it even came with green lights on the inside to accent the green exterior color. (I know thats not stock, but i love it). The only thing that is wrong with it, it that it needs dent resistant panels, they dent up REAL easy. Needless to say I have joined the Happy Honda Owners club!!!
In response to the comment left by shoplmart. The interior is more roomy than expected. I am 5'10" and sitting in the passenger side I have plenty of room as well as the drivers side. As for the back seats I dont think I could sit comfortably for a long amount of time, but when I give rides to people they dont complain. The cup holders are big enough to hold my 44 Ounce soda, and there are cup holders for the back seats as well.
I also never said my car was a Hot rod, that just makes me laugh, I just think that is quicker than my old little Escort, and perfect for the twisty highways I travel every day. As most everyone knows, Hondas get good gas milage on the highways. I hear a lot of people complain about how noisey the car is on the road, but it never seems to bother me, I dont even notice road noise. Its not whisper quiet or anything its just a car on the road. I am going to Vegas next weekend I will update when I get back about the road trip quality of the car,(even though I am in it 2.5 hours a day).
The interior styling isnt anything to write home about, but it is simple, yet nice and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. One thing about the car that I just noticed the other day, is that if the car is wet or if its raining outside, I opened the window a little, and when I went around one of the turns on the highway, the water on the roof and on the windows came inside and got all over the side panels, and me. That was not a nice surprise at 5:30 in the morning, but nevertheless I will not stop loving my car.
