Author's Review
I love my Holmes double window fan. If you are searching for a way to beat the heat because your home does not have air-conditioning, then the Holmes double window fan is the fan to purchase. I purchased this fan ($30) for use when I lived in the Midwest to draw in the cool, crisp air at night. I loved the fan so much, I actually shipped it back (in my suitcase!) to use here in California.
The Product
The Holmes double window fan was purchased for $30 at Target. (Note: I purchased the fan approximately three years ago.)

- Draws in cool air, exhausts hot air, or exchanges air with outside
- One-touch electronic control: two speeds and temperature selection
- Thermostat turns fan off/on to maintain selected comfort level
- Fits double-hung, vertical slider, and casement windows 24 to 37 inches wide

My Experience
I like the feature of intake/exhaust for the fans. The combinations include setting both fans for intake of cool air, both fans for exhaust of warm air, or setting one fan on intake and the other on exhaust. I often set one fan on intake and the other on exhaust so that I can draw out the stuffy, warm air of the room and take in the cool night air. I mostly use the fan on the window at nighttime when there is a difference between the indoors/outdoors air temperature. I love that it has temperature control. It is easy to program the fan to turn off once the air has chilled to the set-temperature (ranging from 80 60 degrees F). Once the temperature has reached the temperature, the fan will shut off. As the temperature rises, the fan will kick back on until the temperature is reached. I also like that there is a high and a low speed setting for the fan, which grades how forcefully the air is blown in or out of the room. The features are easily set by pushing the Mode button. To turn off the fan, there is the one-touch feature that if the Mode button is held down long enough (about 3 seconds), it will shut the entire fan off.
I have found the Holmes double window fan especially useful at nighttime when there is a difference between indoors and outdoors temperature. Usually the house retains so much of the afternoon heat that at night, the house temperature is higher than the temperature outside. I find that the Holmes double window fan is very effective in drawing out some of the warm inside air and drawing in the cooler air from outside.
During the hot days of summer in the Midwest (where I was fortunate enough to have air conditioning), I would put the Holmes double window fan near the vent by putting the fan at a tilt against the wall so that it would help circulate the cooler air that was bellowing out of the air vent which was located near the bottom of the wall.
In terms of noise, there is a light humming of the fan when it is turned on. It is not excessively loud; I am able to fall asleep when the fan is on. I like that the fan is fairly light, which makes it easy to move. Because the fan has a built-in 7-inch extended and also two 3-inch extenders, it is very easy to customize it to fit in any window. I have not found a problem with fitting the fan into a window.
Overall Thoughts
The Holmes double window fan will help cool your home by exchanging the warm, stuffy inside air with the cooler, nighttime outside air. It is quiet, light, and durable. It is well worth the $30!
