Pros: Great storyline
Cons: Bad Animation
The Bottom Line: This movie is a well produced animation of a popular book
Review: Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot. As a fan of J.R.R Tolkien I was skeptical to see this movie it might ruin the book that I enjoy so much. But all worries aside I decided to see the movie. It is not as good as the ...

Pros: Captivating, Brings you along for a wondrous journey, Nice songs, Good animation, Excellent story
Cons: Not for younger children, some scary parts, quite long
Review: Although I wouldn't recommend this movie for small children, I would definitely recommend it for children of the ages 9 and above (that includes all of you adults out there).
We are in a time when most television programs, and even movies... |

Pros: Suspense and story relates well to series.
Cons: Golem hard to understand, he talks to much also. Graphics and battlescenes.
The Bottom Line: I recommend this movie to all people and if you like J.R.R. Tolkein then you will love this movie, also read the series for a better mental picture.
Review: This is a great movie for people of all ages. It takes place about 60 years before "The fellowship of the Ring" but it is about the same ring. This movie is about Bilbo Baggins and his journey with the Dwarves. Like the fellowship Bilbo and Gandalf again...

Pros: good abridged version of story
Cons: leaves out many details
Review: How do you go about transforming a 300-page legendary work of literature into an animated feature less than an hour and a half long? Not very easily. But the creators of this movie made a go of it, and the result was not bad...not bad at all. The...

Pros: Sticks to the book, catches childrens attention, shortened from the book
Cons: Would rather the child read it.
Review: In a time when movies have seemed to replace books, this is one way to entice your child to read a book. The movie stays pretty true to the book, which I like in a movie. Also, it doesn't tell the whole story, which leaves an opening for you to get...

Pros: Based on a great book, great music, good animation
Cons: Skipped alot of parts in the book, changed a major detail in the end of the movie thats in the book.
Review: JRR Tolkien is one of my favorite authors of all time. I remember in 5th grade i was in the Science Fiction club and our project was to read the hobbit, of course i was like.. NOOOOOOOO PLS DONT MAKE US READ A WHOLE BOOK!! Well once you start the book...

Pros: Excellent voice work
Cons: Too condensed, uneven animation
The Bottom Line: A moderately successful adaptation.
Review: With those words, J.R.R. Tolkien began writing his famed fantasy/adventure novel "The Hobbit", set in a fictional Middle Earth. In 1977, Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin Jr. would work together to produce this not bad/not great animated TV movie. "The ...

Pros: Great Voices, Good music, Mood is On Target
Cons: Some parts cut, animation could be better
Review: Way back when I was in sixth grade, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade had a float in it which had a bunch of dwarves, a wizard, and a big red Dragon. Orson Bean, who did the voice of Bilbo Baggins in the Rankin Bass adaptation, was the cohost of the...

Pros: Good choice of voice actors
Cons: Too cute, too much left out.
The Bottom Line: Better than Bakshi
Review: Better than the Bakshi version of "The Lord Of the Rings" that tanked at the box office, and due to remain the only filmed version of Tolkein's first book in his saga, this uneven, but entertaining made for TV cartoon is the best adaptation of Tokein's...

Pros: Cute adaption of the book!
Cons: Not as good as the book
Review: Having read the book as a child I was excited at the prospect of viewing 'The Hobbit' on video with my children.
The cartoon is not up to Disney standards and the sound quality left a little to be desired. The story was changed substantially... |
