Author's Review
Let me tell you about the monitor I was using before this. It was an Acer Aspire 55, 0.28 dpi and I got it as a refurb at sears. The monitor still works, but after about a year, I got fed up with the darkness of it, the clarity was terrible, and plus it wasnt big enough for me.
I did what everyone does who's a Techie. I researched monitors like a madman for about 2 weeks, searching reviews, reading computer shopper's ideal picks, and just finding everything I could about new monitor technology. I educated myself with the specs on dpi, horizontal, vertical and diagonal. I read about the different types of tubes, about sony trinitron tubes, shadow mask, apature grills, etc..
I almost gave myself a migrain doing this. You can research something so indepth that you almost get sick of it and just decide to stick with what you have, but hang in there. I found that Hitachi CM 771 had the most bang for the buck. 21" monitors were just too big for me and I wanted something bigger than a 17". 19" was the ideal medium I found, not too big, not too small, just right.
The reason why I bought this monitor is because of the clarity. This monitor boasts a 0.22 dpi. I mean wow! That is what I wanted, plus most people want to run at a higher resolution than others. Mine right now is set at 1024 X 768, and the refresh rate is 115Hz. For someone who may not know what this means, just think of it, the higher the refresh rate, the less flicker and easier on the eyes. Think of a sine wave and the cycle period is 115Hz, instead of 60Hz or 75Hz. Your less likely to see the cycle change over or period if its a faster refresh rate or cycle.
Hitachi has done very well with this monitor. They use a shadow mask tube with the ergo flat screen. I mean, this puppy is flat, very nice.
I highly recommend this monitor for what it has to offer, if you want to spend under 500 bucks.
