"Papa Jupe be so happy!" THE HILLS HAVE EYES worth watching on DVD.

by   deadmilkboy , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Jul 26, 2004
Pros: The DVD is worth five stars, and the movie worth four stars.
Cons: The movie's only worth four stars.
The Bottom Line: The movie is a definite treat as it is, but its the DVD release that will endear this selection in your library.
Review: When you look back at the life of beloved horror director Wes Craven, born in Cleveland in 1939, and the first two movies he ever directed, you could just picture decades of repression exploding into one man’s desire to make the ultimate sick ...

Craven's Best and Most Underrated Film

by   hucklecat03 ,  May 7, 2007
Pros: Michael Berryman, setting, direction, DVD transfer is fantastic
Cons: Sound could be a bit better
The Bottom Line: The Original "Hills Have Eyes" (1977) is well worth an evening. If you like late 1970's horror films you'll love this!
Review: Wes Craven is true master of horror. Shot on a shoestring budget and originally titled "Blood Relations", "The Hills Have Eyes" was the follow up to Craven's shocking debut "The Last House On The Left" (1972). Both films are gripping and edgy, they are ...

The Eyes Have It

by   blackelve ,  Feb 19, 2000
Pros: jammed packed action death scenes
Cons: acting isn't great..but who cares
Review: The Hills Have Eyes is a deeply disturbed movie about one family against another in the wastelands.

This movie has become one of those famous classics that the true horror buff clamours over.
It has those scenerios that deeply disturb...

The Bible and gender bias (neither intentional but both fit)

by   paulsavage ,  Oct 24, 2007
Pros: Plot, pacing, performances by the men
Cons: Performances by the women.
The Bottom Line: As far as horror movies go, this one is campy but still fun. The gore factor isn't that high and the story and pacing are both nearly top notch.
Review: And Cain went from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden (Gen 4:16). The Hills Have Eyes has a bit of a prologue. A scavenger dressed like someone from any stock caveman flick shows up at a dusty, last gas ...

"Devil Child Becomes Devil Man..." THE HILLS HAVE EYES

by   xxxxer , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Jun 28, 2002
Pros: Another violent early film from Wes Craven
Cons: Not enough about the cannibal tribe; bad dialog
The Bottom Line: Worthwhile film from Wes Craven, although not quite up to par with his earlier LAST HOUSE film. Still, there's enough violence and action here to hold your attention.
Review: Before he hit the big time with movies like A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and later SCREAM, director Wes Craven had a string of violent horror efforts that seemed to feature ideas of normal people enacting bloody revenge on degenerates who had wronged them....

Hills Have Eyes and that baby- eatin' Papa Jupe clan

by   ChrisJarmick , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Sep 21, 2003
Pros: Suspensful, brutal, trailblazer of the modern horror film.
Cons: Extremely low budget, somewhat dated, incongruous acting styles.
The Bottom Line: Craven's best still packs some thrills; influential essential horror film (but dated).
Review: Once upon a time, THE HILLS HAVE EYES was the scariest, most brutal, and wildest mainstream horror film in release. It was a lot better made than Craven's first feature, the much maligned and hated LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT. It had a lot more gore, product ...

Not as good as the remake

by   moviebuff88 ,  Mar 27, 2006
Pros: Scary, Decent Acting, its a classic.
Cons: There could have been some better looking gore scenes and it kind of just ends.
The Bottom Line: I recommend this movie, but the remake is better.
Review: I bought this movie because I loved the remake, and I was slightly disappointed because it’s not near as good as the remake. The remake was filled with amazing gore scenes, great acting, and suspense. But this one has a lot less gore, the acting is ...

Wes Craven's The Hills Have Eyes

by   Mike_Bracken , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Jul 25, 2000
Pros: An intense situational horror film with a simple plot and some good characters allows Craven to re-explore the ideas found in his debut film, Last House on the Left
Cons: Some of the performances are bad, the film takes too long to get going, and the ending is too abrupt
Review: The Hills Have Eyes: Future Films/ Image Entertainment
Rating: USA: R/ Uk: 18/ Australia: R

In 1972, first-time filmmaker Wes Craven unleashed his debut film, Last House on the Left on unsuspecting horror fans...

Pros: Dude, They Eat People...
Cons: Somewhat Bad Acting, Not Much Suspense, Bad Ending...
The Bottom Line: A Good Film To Add To Your Collection.
