The Bottom Line: I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves musicals.
I bet most adults would shrug this movie off, thinking it would be boring or stupid because it's a disney channel movie. The reason I say "most adults" is because I've heard opinions favoring it as well as those against seeing it.
I actually saw HSM2 first because we don't get the disney channel tv station at my house. When HSM2 was being played, I was house sitting at my sisters house so I was able to watch it there.
I absolutely love movie musicals no matter what they're about. I thought the budding romance between Troy (played by Zac Efron) and Gabriella (Vanessa Anne Hudgens) was so sweet and cute. In HSM2 and HSM3 you see their feelings for each other growing and it's so sweet.
Gabriella is a cute brainiac and Troy is a sports jockey so with their different interests you wouldn't think they would inevitably end up together, although you could see that they have a connection.
Troy acts completely different when he's around Gabriella then he does around his friends. His friends think his whole life is centered on basketball, but there's actually this whole other side to Troy that Gabriella can see when he opens up to her.
Troy loves singing with Gabriella and when it comes to do the final callbacks, he would stop at nothing to get a chance to sing with her again. Not even their friends could sabotage their chances of singing together, no matter how hard they try.
Then there's Ryan and Sharpay, (played by Lucas Grabeel and Ashley Tisdale) twin brother and sister who want the stage all to themselves. In an attempt to win the lead roles, they get the drama teacher to switch the final callbacks to the next day. That's the day when Troy has a basketball game and Gabriella has her scholastic decathlon. Troy and Gabriella still don't let that stop them. They end up creating a diversion of sorts so that they can still sing together.
