Author's Review
I wanted to increase my desk space and have my desk look more organized so I decided to get an all-in-one. After careful consideration, I decided to spend the extra money and purchase this model. I am glad I did! This is a great all-in-one. It is very nice looking and all the features work great (so far)!
If you "ever" do 2-sided prints, this printer is a must have. My daughter wanted to make cards for Valentines day in which we utilized the "2-sided print" feature of the printer. This worked like a dream! Many times, with my other printer, we struggled with reinserting the paper the right way and often wasted paper & ink until we got it right. With this printer, you just adjust your print settings and both sides are printed with out hassle!!
Print quality is very good and fast.
Copy quality is good (black & white - I haven't copied in color yet). The only complaint I have here is that sometimes the copy comes out a little crooked. The manual says to adjust the feeder guides if this happens, but I had it happen when the guides appeared to be properly position.
The fax receiving is a little slower than my regular fax, but the quality is much better....just like a printed copy.
I faxed 9 sheets via the feeder today without trouble. I don't know what the fax sending capacity is but it is at least 9 sheets. I use distinctive ring for my fax and I was able to set this up fairly easily.
The display menu is pretty easy to use. Manual does a good job of explaining how to use it.
Photo quality is great. I printed a picture from my computer and it looked almost store quality. I haven't used the print from picture card feature yet. I like to store my photos on my computer, so I don't know if I will use this feature.
I haven't had an opportunity to scan anything yet. Some say that the scan quality is not to good, but from everything else I've seen about this printer, I would think it would be good.
I waited to buy this until there was a manufacturers rebate. I bought it at Office Depot for $399 minus an $80 rebate made my purchase price $319 (plus tax on $399).
If I did a lot of printing on different media (i.e. plain paper and 4x6 photos) then I would have considered the 7410, which has an extra paper tray. You can buy an extra tray for this model, but you are going to pay as much as if you bought the 7410.
I have a small home office, however, I don't do a large volume of printing, faxing, coping etc. So for me the ink capacity has been great.
One of the reviewers recommended turning the unit off to avoid scanner burn. Actually, this is a setting on this unit that you can set the bulb to turn off after an hour of no use without turning off the machine. So you can have your fax available 24 hrs without worrying about scanner burn. Consult the manual.
Also, there was some reviewers who complained about the software. I had no problems at all. I removed the software for the units I replaced before installing. I found that this software took up less space than my other scanner software alone! I installed it while I ate dinner (and I have a cable connection), so it didn't seem to take long at all. Just wait until you get past the "user assisted" set up (about 10 mins) before walking away.
I love this all-in-one!
