The HP Officejet 5610 is great for the home and office!
Date of Review: Nov 6, 2006
The Bottom Line: A Multi-function printer, copier, scanner and fax machine all-in-one for the home or office!
The HP Officejet 5610 is a versatile four-in-one office machine for printing, copying, scanning and sending faxes. Four machines in one in an area of 17 1/8 inches wide, by 16 1/2 inches high and 9 1/4 inches deep, this unit saves a lot of space verses having four separate machines.
The HP 5610 has an auto document feeder for coping, faxing and scanning 25 pages at a time. There is a 100-sheet paper tray for printing and faxes.
There is a monochrome LCD for commands and actions, plus one touch buttons for easy use for faxing, copying or scanning a document. The layout of all the buttons are easy to use and understand.
~~~~ Printer
The printer part can solve almost all your printing needs from documents, presentations to quality photo printing. The printer is rated at 20 pages per minute in black and white and 13 pages per minute in color. The ratings are in the draft setting, which produces the poorest quality.
Photo printing is a snap with quality and easy to use. The 5610 has 4800 x 1200 optimized dpi print resolution for some beautiful photo prints. You can reduce and enlarge your photos from 25% to 400%. It will print photos from 4 x 6 inches borderless to 8 1/2 x 14 inches with borders.
*My Tests: The printer printed almost laser quality documents and the photos were very good in quality. Document for me didn't make the 20 pages per minute, I printed in the normal mode and it would print about seven pages per minute, which for me was a good speed. For photos in the best quality it took about 40 second for one 4 x 6 inch color print and about 3 minutes to complete a full color print of 8 1/2 x 11 inches.
*Note: My tests are not scientific, but are done to give the consumer an idea of what I experienced. Two different documents or two different photos will give different results depending on how much ink it has to use, plus other variables.
~~~~ Copier
Coping couldn't be any easier, just place from one to twenty five documents in the tray and it will copy them by the push of a button. It is rated to copy about 20 pages per minute.
*My Tests: I placed in 20 documents to see if it could copy them in one minute as rated. I tried it twice with 20 documents and the first time it copied all 20 documents in one minute and 23 seconds and the second time it was one minute and 20 seconds. Even though it missed it by the manufacture's rating I was impressed at the time it did get.
~~~~ Scanner
The scanner part is a 48-bit color scanner with 1200 x 2400 dpi (dots per inch) and can be enhanced to 19,200 dpi.
*My Tests:
Scanning an 8 x 10 inch color photo turned out pretty good, though if you look closely there is a slight loss in the quality from the original photo. Scanning a presentation produced about the same quality as the original presentation. I did like taking a 4 x6 inch color photo and enlarged it 200% with fair quality and when I printed it the results were good enough to frame.
~~~~ Fax Machine
The fax part shows who is calling by the caller ID and you can block junk fax numbers. It sends and receives black and white or color faxes at 33.6Kbps. You can program in up to 80 fax numbers and it will hold up to 100 faxes in memory.
*My Tests:
The fax part I didn't test too much, but I did send a couple of faxes without any problems.
~ Other Features ~
USB 2.0 connection
Redial & speed dial
Total sheet capacity 25 in auto feeder, 100 in tray = 125 sheet storage
Fax through the PC or as a stand-alone
~ My Thought! ~
The HP Officejet 5610 is nice in the office or the home. Four functions in one with good results. I was impressed with all the function, but what really surprised me was that a multi-printer like this could produce some beautiful color photos. The 4 x 6 inch borderless prints were amazing printed on photo quality paper, on regular paper, they did a decent job, they were missing the glossiness of the photo paper. Larger color photos printed pretty well, but the 4 x 6 inch prints were the best.
The 5610 is simple to hookup to a computer or you can just use it without a computer. I prefer the computer hookup because on the computer I can view and edit photos better than without a computer screen. The one touch buttons for faxes, scanning and coping couldn't be any easier to use.
For a price under $120, the HP Officejet 5610 is a bargain for all it does and it does them all well. I highly recommend looking at this model.
