Author's Review
We purchased this computer to replace another HP product that was running WinXPsp3. This machine runs on Vista premium. Needing to be on-line for business with little time for learning curve..this machine surprised us. It's very fast & reliable. I would recommend it to friends & businesses.
You basically plug in your peripherals & turn the machine on & the machine will walk you through any items it needs drivers for, etc.
Setting my network up was just as simple. I had already plugged in my network router, and the system found it and my internet connection right away.
There are connections for SmartMedia/xD, CompacFlas I/II/MD; SD/Mini MMC/RS/Plus/Mobile & MS/PRO/Duo/Pro Duo on the front of the machine. there is also a microphone & speaker jack on the front which is easier to reach than the same connections which are on the back of the case. You also get 2 front side usb ports and a 1394 port. The back of the case has 4 usb ports, a 1394 port, and the ethernet port, as well as all the other "normal" ports and connections. It does not come with a dialup modem.
Hint: If you have a problem installing your existing XP software (accounting & graphics for us), choosing to run as administrator & in a mode like win 95 to XP) will allow most programs to load. I only had one graphics program that refused to load (Print Shop Pro 11).
There are a lot of bells and whistles that we didn't think we would use, but find ourselves liking them more and more.
If you are into gaming, graphics, or needing to use for a business..this machine will easily handle any, or all of the above at the same time.
The graphics capability is by NVIDIA, which gives almost unlimited setting options.
The computer case is good looking, very stylish with it's black & silver coloring (black with a silver trim), and not as large as I thought it would be. An added bonus for us, since we are in Texas & in a rural setting, is the covers over the dvd drive (this was the problem with the older HP...dust in the dvd/cd drives..made them noisy & unstable).
