Product Review

A good laptop for the price.

by   sja9604 ,   Jun 24, 2008

Pros:  Built in web cam, Vista, lots of storage, remote, wireless switch

Cons:  Gets HOT, no clasp to close it, not sturdy

The Bottom Line:  Recommend fully for the LIGHT laptop user. Would not recommend it for the business professional who plans on lugging it around everyday.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I love my laptop, and I got it at a great deal. I bought laptop at Circuit City for less than $700 and another $50 mail in rebate, and turned down all the extra warranties. The warranty was over $250 and I didn't feel like it was worth it, I can just be vary careful.

That being said, I should mention that if you plan to bring the laptop around with you quite a bit, you should consider another laptop or buying some sort of warranty. The computer is as fast as you could ever need, but it is not very sturdy. There is no clasp to keep it closed, and the battery charger gets pulled out of it easily. The remote control also falls out of its holder easily, and its always getting lost in my case.

I'm in college, and it serves it purpose well for taking notes. I bought a carry case and I am just very careful with it. I know there are much faster computers out there, but I've never felt like this one wasn't going fast enough. I did have some problems while trying to play the Sims Deluxe, but I'm not sure if the processor wasn't fast enough or if it was Vista causing the freezes. Besides that, I haven't had any problems with the processor or amount of memory.

I get a lot of compliments on the laptop. People think the touch button volume controls and mute button are cool (they are!). There are also touch buttons for the DVD player. It seems like a good idea, but it actually is annoying because its really easy to press them. It really gets on my nerves when I accidently launch the "QuickPlay" by lightly touching a button and everything freezes so that it can launch the DVD player.

The design on the cover is also kind of cool, albeit a bit girly if I was a guy.The remote is impressive, but I've never actually used it. I love the built in webcam, I used it as a mirror to fix my hair during a lecture, lol. This one doesn't get hotter than any of the other laptops I've had, and the battery charger gets scorching hot! The touch pad mouse does get sticky easily, and make it a bit hard to navigate. Vista came with it and it is not as hideous as everyone says it is. Another great thing is the switch on the laptop that turns of the wireless. It's actually pretty helpful when you are somewhere are you can't get a signal, as it keeps your computer from trying over and over.

Overall, I would recommend this laptop to anyone wanting a modest laptop for not a lot of money. If you plan to lug it around with you everyday or take it traveling, get something sturdier.
