HP LaserJet 5000N:Ultra Quiet, Fast, Reliable Printer
Date of Review: Aug 4, 2000
The HP LaserJet 5000 N is a very quiet, efficient, and highly flexible printer which unparalleled performance to every other printer in the department where it is located.
The HP LaserJet 5000 N prints very fast, clear, and handles large printing jobs flawlessly without any jams. While most of our print jobs are not graphic laden, then printer does print even those Microsoft Word jobs with photographs in a timely manner much faster than the previous HP 4Si which was located at this workstation in the past. The printer's page quality specifications include an amazing 1200-dpi quality without any performance inhibitors. Also, the printer creates about 16 pages per minute with the first page coming out of the printer in about 13 to 15 seconds.
With the ability to handle all paper sizes from 3 X 5 to 11 X 17, the HP LaserJet 5000 N printer is able to meet every need of this department. Since this department does a lot of legal work the ability to make legal sized documents of the 11 X 17 size without jamming is of paramount concern, yet this printer functions regardless of what type of job is sent. Ever since I have seen this printer some months ago, I can not recall where there has even been one jam in it!
The HP LaserJet 5000 N comes equipped with HP Web JetAdmin printer management software and HP JetDirect 600N internal print servers. HP brand printers are the only ones that we have currently in our organization and I have high respect for their quality and endurance having worked with them for over a decade.
Currently we have our HP LaserJet 5000 N printer attached to a Novell 3.12 network. Within the next few months, this printer will be moved to a Novell 4.11 server. Because of the server's print que, the jobs may not immediately be printed but are held in a group until there are at least 5 to 9 pages to be printed. However, this has to do with the network settings and not anything to do with the printer itself.
If there is any limitation of this printer, it is the fact that it is a black and white printer only. Other that that, the HP LaserJet 5000 N meets all of our needs for this work area. It is the best product that I have seen so far for departmental group printing, in my opinion. It's reliability and print quality is impeccable and I highly recommend this printer to any organization that has workgroups and high printing demands.
