I have used this printer several times and I am really impressed with it's speed and the fact that will print on larger size paper. The quality of the print is unequaled by any printer in it's class.
By far HP makes the best laser printers in any class, they are the most reliable and they rarely break down. HP makes a printer series for just about every single market in the world. They make a personal laser printer, a small office laser printer and a work group size printer and a departmental size laser printer.
The HP 5000 laser printer fits into the work group classification, because it prints at a fast speed and has a duty cycle of 65,000 pages. Which basically means the printing mechanism can handle 65,000 pages a month without any major wear on the printer. The reason that it is very important consider the work load when choosing a laser printer is, because a laser printer uses rubber rollers to move the paper throughout the printer, and as the paper is being moved throughout the printer the rollers are picking up paper dust and other contaminates, these will over time reduce the printers ability to move the paper through the printer.So the manufacturer designed each series of printers to handle a specific workload and classified them by duty cycle.
This printer has a unique design that allows it to print on larger size paper 11"x17" which is perfect for graphic artist and also companies that use CAD programs. This printer also comes standard with 12 MB of memory(max of 100 MB) to allow it to print larger files faster. It also has a 2 GB hard drive installed inside to allow for stored fonts and special forms.
This printer also comes standard with a paper capacity of 850 sheets and with an optional paper tray it will handle a total of 1100 sheets of paper for those larger prints jobs, this will allow you to send larger jobs without having to reload paper. It also has an optional duplex unit which allows you to print on both sides of the paper without having to reload the paper.
The HP 5000GN is easily connected to your network so it can be shared by multiple users. The connection is handled by an internal print server card which is factory installed. With the included drivers you should be up and printing within the hour.
In conclusion, I think this is a super printer. Having seen it in action, it is a fast quiet and very reliable printer.
