Pros: easy to set up, operate, all paper formats, superb quality

Cons: too easy to operate

The Bottom Line: For a mid-sized company or a small family, this is the ideal printer. More robust and user-friendly than any other printers I have evaluated and supported.

As a support engineer at a large stock exchange, a big part of my daily routine involved setting up and maintaining printers. Up to now, we mostly had the old HPs and Lexmarks.

But we recently purchased several HP LaserJet 4050. The reasons why I decided on that brand:
* Cheap compared to other brands.
* Excellent support services.
* Good company reputation.

When we installed and evaluated several of these printers at 3 departments, the employees were very happy. Our observations were:
* if networked, the printer is almost PLUG-AND-PLAY, meaning that it just has to be plugged into the network and it carries most of the set up on its own.
* the QUALITY was definitely superb to the old printers we had
* equivalent quality to a gigantic printer/copier we have
* the paper operation is standardized - all the major functions are ONE SIMPLE MOVE. One has to pull a tray to fill more paper or open a lid to load legal sized paper.
* in the event that a paper jam occurs, fixing it is practically a two-step operation: OPEN LID + TAKE OUT paper.
* extremely USER FRIENDLY with easy to understand problems
* 1 PAPER JAM for 2 months, 3 printers in 3 departments.
* a LOW BUDGET printer.

I would definitely recommend it as an excellent printer for mid-size companies. It served well our stock exchange of 500 people. I am sure it would serve you well too.
