The Bottom Line: Highly recommended. Bigger, but much better quality and dependability than throw away printers. It's a space commitment - but well worth if for professional results.
First off, I went quickly through three lexmark printers (I'm a sucker for free toner cartridges w/a new machine for $100) before I fell into this machine. I picked it up at a state surplus sale - and while its bulkiness at first worried me - 2 years, about 4,000 pages later, and still on the same toner - I'm a very happy customer. I believe it's a mid-1990's model but the plus side is that the cartridges are still readily available, in big box stores or online at resellers. You'll note that the price of the cartridges can be steep, from $70 to $110 or more. But, believe me, the print quality is laser. It is a much better quality, non smear printing capability than the smaller, disposable printers out there. If you buy a printer that is worth less than buying a new $30 cartridge - you may want to re-think your investment.
This HP has a great functionable in/out feeder tray. It's easy to print envelopes, 4x6 postcards, labels, even w/o jams and w/no smearing. Mine came w/an extra roller cart for storage and to lift it off the ground a bit - a very nice plus.
The 2 paper trays allows me to fit an entire ream of paper into the machine and forget it.
While it is an older model, I've had no problem moving this machine to 2 different upgrades of computers. (But, I haven't moved yet to MS07!). HP does a good job in having old drivers readily available to use with various operating systems.
