HP a Dependable Office Printer!

The printer I am going to focus on here is the LaserJet 2100M. When our offices moved, we all got new LaserJet 2100M's. I've been using mine for almost a year now and have been very pleased with it.

My first HP Laser printer was 15 years ago. The LaserJet 2100M is basically a box with a drawer in the front for paper and an indent in the top that the prints are delivered to. It's a very simple design and very functional. Unlike the models that are produced for the home consumer, this one has very few moveable plastic pieces that can break or fail to function.

The spec page for this printer says it prints 10 pages per minute. I was surprised by that because I would have guessed more. It's fairly fast and the quality of the print is sharp and professional. It prints 1200x1200 dpi. In the time I've used this printer it has not jammed once! The paper feeds with a "straight-through paper path", this is one function which I believe is why this printer rarely if ever jams.

I have only needed to have one of the three HP printers I've owned in the office serviced and that was because I melted a transparency in it. My fault not the printers so as far as dependable, in my opinion you can't find much better! TIP:If you intend to use transparencies be sure you purchase the kind that made for Laser Printers! Not doing so can be a costly mistake!

Service: Our office has an independent contract for repairs and the company is great about coming right out and getting us up and running again. As a home user too, it is much more dificult to find a reputable repair person. I have attempted to find help at the HP site online to get my home printer working but so far have not had much luck.

Because this is an office printer and we have many of them scattered throughout the office, I have no idea how expensive the printer cartridges are. I can tell you that it is only a black and white printer and that the cartridges last for a long time. I do presentations and do a great deal of printing with this machine. The spec sheet says that you get 5,000 pages from a cartridge. That sounds pretty accurate to me.

The thing that puts this printer above the rest is the 4 MB DRAM which the HP LaserJet 2100 comes with. The 2100M/TN both come with 8MB DRAM. This is the memory that holds your print jobs. Because of the graphic work that I do, this is an important feature. The more graphics you are printing the slower the processing of the print job and the more memory you use. You can add memory to this printer up to 52 MB on the 2100 and 40 MB on both the 2100M/TN.

The paper drawer holds about one half a ream of 8 1/2" by 11" size paper but the printer also has a small door and a feed for legal size. You can only put a small hand full of legal size paper in at a time.

This printer has a PowerSaver mode and is Energy Star compliant.

If you're looking for a dependable, sturdy office printer.....look no further! My advice would be to stay away from the home version HP's. I have the HP DeskJet 855Cse at home and it's been out of commission longer than it's been in working order. After having 3 HP's in the office and being very happy with how dependable they had been, when I was looking for a printer for home I naturally choose HP. I cannot say I would again.

When researching your office printer be sure you take into consideration the cost of the cartridges and how many prints you will get from each before you purchase. The cartridges tend to be rather expensive. I do like that each cartridge for this printer and my Cannon Color Printer come with return labels for recycling the cartridges!!!!!!! I believe this is very important and that we all need to consider the ecology whenever possible!
