Excellent Printer

We bought this printer to replace an old Apple Personal Laser NT. My wife is a Graphic Designer, so we were looking for a laser printer with Post Script output and a brand with known reliability. We also liked that it would print up to 1200 dpi.

From the box to it's first printout only took about 10 minutes. This is to be expected on a Macintosh system though. On our system it is connected through the Appletalk port. The first thing I noticed about this printer is how quiet it is in standby mode. The only way you can tell that it's on is by the little LED indicator light. I would describe it as super quiet, and to me that's a real plus. When it's printing it does have a hushed fan sound, but it's so much quieter than the printer it's replacing.

The output is crisp and clear on the Hammermill paper we use. I read in an earlier opnion about having difficulty in printing Post Script at the 1200 dpi setting. With the page layout programs we use (Quark and Pagemaker) this hasn't been a problem. It prints Post Script perfectly at every setting we set it to print at, including 1200 dpi. We haven't used it for printing photos because we use a color inkjet for those needs.

We've had this printer for about two months now and find it to be an excellent printer for our home office. The memory has no problem with the large college class catalogue drafts that are printed out. (That was a problem with the Apple printer) Also, I've noticed that Staples carries the accessories for this printer such as memory chips and ethernet cards. That makes it easy to upgrade if it's found to be needed.

This printer would be an excellent choice for anyone looking for a laser printer with Post Script output. It can be connected to Macintosh (through Appletalk port) or Windows computers straight out of the box.
