Stay away from the dv6000 series!

Background

I bought this laptop for school. At the time of purchase I was kind of in a bind because we were in the middle of finals and my old laptop broke (we take our finals on our computers). Therefore, I didn't have a lot of time to shop around for computers. I bought this one because I thought it was a good deal when you compare the price (just under $1,000 after tax) to some of the features (good memory, pretty fast, etc.).

Computer Performance

I was actually very satisfied with this laptop's performance. I never had problems with it crashing or overheating as I had with previous laptops. I also didn't experience the laptop slow down significantly over time. As far as computer performance, this may have been my favorite laptop to date.

Problems

My initial problems with this computer arose a few months after purchase. One of the screws fell out of the bottom of the computer. I screwed it back in. In the 10 months I have used this computer, I have lost two screws and have no clue when they fell out.

I also experienced problems with the little rubber buttons on the monitor (that cover the screws) becoming unglued. While this clearly in no way affects the computer's performance, it makes the display somewhat unappealing.

My biggest problem arose about six months after purchase. The monitor started flickering and fading away as I adjusted the angle. This problem grew exponentially worse over time - eventually, my entire screen would either fade away or would be covered with both vertical and horizontal lines. I sent it in to get it repaired and now it seems to be working fine again (all repairs were covered by the warranty). However, I'm afraid this problem might reappear as it recently also happened to one of my friends with the same laptop.

Conclusion

This laptop seems to have some physical defects. Currently it is working fine, but I will replace it immediately the next time I have a problem. While the computer itself runs very well, I am very disappointed with how easily the laptop falls apart physically and I would not recommend it to someone in need of a reliable computer.
