Best Compatibility I Could Find. Great with Macs.
Pros:
Seems to read and write every kind of disk I could imagine.
Cons:
None that I can see.
The Bottom Line:
Reads and burns everything, very fast. No hassles.

Author's Review
My external CD burner failed and I wanted to get a dual layer burner to store more on a DVD. I'd also heard about LightScribe and thought it would be cool to have that feature.
But I was having trouble finding a drive that could actually write all the different kinds of DVDs, especially + & - in dual layer. This one fit the bill, at least when I bought it last month it could read and write everything. Just one step down in the HP line and there were a few types that couldn't be written.
I have a PowerMac G5, 2GHz dual processor, a few years old, natch. Easy to install a new drive, just slide the old one out, swap the cables, then slide the new one in.
I'd heard some issues in the past with Codec Licenses, but no problem with any Mac software I could find. Supported with Toast, iTunes, etc. without any fuss (i.e. I didn't do anything at all.)
WAY faster than the old optical drive, which was only 4X DVD burn, and which did a lousy job on CD reading.
LightScribe is interesting, thought the contrast isn't great it's quite OK and gives an appealing look to the disks. No speed demon...
