HP2820 - software problems

Having bought this printer I've spent many hours trying to get the software to function properly. The scan functionality in particular is bug-ridden, at least for network use.

This is rather typical of HP. The hardware is as good as it ever was - printers go on for ever - but the software is hastily written, and there's no debug provision that I can make out, so the helpline people struggle (reinstall software, try another computer, etc..) My post to the forum, which was politely critical of the scanfix.exe patch on their website, was promptly removed.
