young Helen Mirren - a babe

About the only Mirren early work previously available was Age of Consent (1969) playing an Australian girl against James Mason's artist, fully nude in the sea.
This box set is a collection of BBC TV plays. Helen comes across charmingly in a Parkinson interview. Otherwise, lavish use of Fast forward is advised in some of the plays. I will mention only:
(1) Caesar and Carlotta - the night before Mussolini & mistress are shot.
(2) The Apple Cart - simply awful Shaw. One wonders how the Shaw Festival (Niagara on the Lake) stays afloat.
(3) Philanthopist. A modern (allegedly reverse Moliere) comedy about effete Brit English professors, and their girl friends. The main character is No-Neck from Rocky Horror. OK, not every play can be up to the standard of Look Back in Anger, Krapp's Last Tape ..
(4) The Country Wife (Wycherly)-- when I saw this on stage in the 50's, it seemed to work better. Now it seems tedious.
Just about worth the $24 from Amazon.
