We thought he was crazy...
Date of Review: Oct 12, 2000
The first my husband and I heard of this movie was from my husbands best friend. As he described this movie we both were really freaked out. We thought he was completely nuts!!!
He proceeded to tell us "This movie is so awesome...they shoot up a bunch of cops and it's really cool..." After that comment we were really scared of him and very turned off from watching the movie.
So anyway after quite a while we decided to give it a chance and WOW, he was right!! That was the most fascinating thing about the movie, it totally switches the traditional "good guy/bad guy" roles and probably truth be told shows the way it is in real life, at least some of the time.
The three star actors are my favorite male actors of all time (except for John Travolta...no one tops him). Val Kilmer and Robert De Nero play the 2 main "bad guys". They show a real human side, as well as a loving husband/boyfriend figure. Al Pacino plays the main "good guy", who although he is a detective and fights crime like all good guys should it also shows what a mess his life really is and how terrible he treats his family.
This was a fascinating twist to the typical "cops and robbers" film. I would recommend it, but definitely not to teens or children, because there really is a lot of violence.
