Connect Four
Date of Review: May 1, 2001
The Bottom Line: My family and I highly recommend Hasbro Electronic Hand-Held Connect Four.
When I was pregnant with my second son, I went on a mission to find as many hand-held electronic games that I could find to put in my overnight bag. I can not sleep in strange places and thought these games would give me something to do in the wee hours of the morning. I found Connect Four and immediately purchased it.
The object of Electronic Hand-Held Connect Four is to get four black checkers in a row before the computer get four white checkers in a row.
Connect Four has two games to choose from and three skill levels. The two games consist of traditional Connect Four, you and the computer take turns dropping checkers into the grid. Or Connect Four with a disappearing grid, you and the computer take turns dropping the checkers into the grid but the grid disappears shortly after each checker is dropped. You need to remember where your checkers and your opponent are.
The three skill levels consist of beginner, intermediate and expert. The beginner levels give you an option of getting a hint. When the hint button is selected, the game will give you a suggestion as to where you should place your checker.
To start a game, push the new game button. You must then select a game. Choose game one or two. Then select the skill level one, two or three.
The game indicates when it is your turn by placing the word player in the top left and a flashing black checker in the center above the grid. Move the arrows to select which column you will place your checker and press enter. It?s that easy. Continue to do this until someone either wins the game or there are no more moves. If you win, the game flashes WIN and plays a victory song. If the computer wins, it says game over.
You can win one of three ways. Have four checkers in a row horizontally, vertically or diagonally.
After each game, the game tells you how many games you won, tied and games played. A running record is kept until you change the game or skill level.
The game also has a high score button. This shows you the highest level that you have beaten the computer at.
One really nice thing about Connect Four is that you can turn the sound off. When in the hospital, this came in handy. I could turn the sound off and not disturb anyone. It also shuts off automatically after a minute of inactivity. So if I feel asleep playing, I didn?t have to worry about a dead battery in the morning.
Connect Four comes with one AA battery which is conveniently placed in the back, secured by a screw.
Electronic Connect Four is a great game to take traveling, it can be played anywhere. It?s small size fits into any overnight bag, backpack, pocketbook or diaper bag.
Connect Four is made by Hasbro and is recommended for children seven and older. Connect Four is a game even I enjoy playing.
The only downfall, Connect Four is addicting. You will not be able to play just one game. You may also have people fighting over this game to play it. It may be wise to purchase more then one.
My family and I highly recommend Hasbro Electronic Hand-Held Connect Four.
