Harvard Business Review: More interesting than you think

by   hansthemoleman ,  Mar 8, 2006
Pros: Easy to read, attractive, informative, timely articles
Cons: Expensive
The Bottom Line: A great read for anyone interested in leadership, management, innovation, and other business-related concepts. Articles are timely, easy-to-read, and presented in an attractive format.
Review: The Harvard Business Review (HBR) is arguably the most widely read and well respected business journal. I've been told by several health care librarians that HBR is one of the few things that executives read. Even though I had heard about the journal ...

Get HBR if you are serious about staying on top

by   greenspj ,  Jan 5, 2000
Pros: authoritative, business school cases, worth it
Cons: Takes the full 2 months to read, expensive
Review: I buy this magazine:
1) to stay on top of current issues, trends and thoughts in business
2) to prepare for writing my applications to ivy league graduate business schools (shoot I shouldn't give away my edge like that)

The Best on Business!!

by   demosthenes ,  Dec 21, 1999
Pros: in-depth, clear articles on business
Cons: expensive to subscribe - no cons otherwise
Review: I am a huge fan of the Harvard Business Review. Not every issue is packed chock full of articles I am dying to peruse but what in-depth academic publication is...even for academics. As an aspiring entrepreneur, I never fail to find one or several...

Business In Review: The Best Of The Traditional & the Innovative Business Models

by   charles ,  Jan 3, 2000
Pros: Great layout, precise style, smooth format
Cons: Would like more concentration on topics of great interest such as high tech, Internet...More is fine.
Review: My interest in this magazine started back in college. I made it a point to read each one of its issues. This is the magazine that all respected professionals must read. If you want to read what the business leaders have to say, you can't afford not to...

Don't Believe the Hype

by   nate_dowden ,  Nov 5, 1999
Pros: Glossy cover
Cons: See review
Review: This venerable mag. has been the popular touchstone of corporate strategy probably since it's inception. Anyone who is anyone has published here. So my problem with it? Everything is diluted to the point that it is virtually unintelligible. The...

HBR - One big consulting sales pitch

by   jkatrader ,  Apr 12, 2002
Pros: 1. On par with WSJ for reputation in Business
Cons: 1. Doesn't deserve the reputation
The Bottom Line: 12 times per year for the price of 12 business books or a subscription to the weekly Economist. HBR does not deliver the ROI.
Review: I have dutifully shelled out the $100+ for annual subscription to Harvard Business Review. After 8 months of this magazine, I have yet to find more than a couple decent articles. What charades as "academic business writing for the senior executive" is...
