Would You Pay $112.50 To See Harry Potter? Kick Me ... I Did!!!

by   Freak369 ,  Nov 17, 2001
Pros: A mystical, enchanting film that will touch even the hardest hearts.
Cons: Might be too frightening for small children, some scenes too loud.
The Bottom Line: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone has finally arrived! Don't miss this on the big screen, it is well worth the price and long lines.
Review: Time seemed to have stood still in my household over the past few days. No matter what we did, it seemed like 1:15 pm, November 16th would never arrive. Why 1:15pm? Why November 16th? It was the exact time and date of when we would be embarking on...

Okay, Okay, the Book WAS Better...But I Still Loved This Movie...

by   JediKermit , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Nov 19, 2001
Pros: Great acting from the kids and adults...
Cons: Some unavoidable pacing problems in a year-long movie
The Bottom Line: If I wasn't so Hairy myself, I'd name our upcoming kid Harry Potter...but that's just asking for problems in school.
Review: This will be a very biased review of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Perhaps you've heard of it. It's all about an eleven-year old orphaned boy growing up in Roald Dahlesque misery, who finds an escape when he's told he, like his dead parents,...

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: Sign Me Up For Hogwarts

by   befus ,  Oct 12, 2007
Pros: Cast; visuals; whimsical and magical tone; faithfulness to the story
Cons: A bit long; special effects (especially the centaur) can look clunky
The Bottom Line: The first film about the boy who lived...the movie magic starts here.
Review: Let's get this out of the way upfront: I love the Harry Potter books. When you fall in love with literature first, especially literature of the wonderful, witty and ultimately deep kind that J.K. Rowling has given the world in the Harry Potter ...

Muggles Muddle Magical Masterpiece in First Harry Potter Movie

by   bilbopooh ,  Sep 16, 2005
Pros: Snape, score, the look of the film
Cons: poor pacing and characterization, underused actors
The Bottom Line: It's excellent in several respects but falls just short of expectations. Still, a must for Potter fans.
Review: Back in the fall of 2001, once I had recovered enough from 9/11 to think about other things again, my mind was occupied largely with one topic: the upcoming first installment of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, as ...

Harry Potter Lives up to his Hype

by   colleenmf ,  Nov 16, 2001
Pros: No deviation from the book and little is left out of the story.
Cons: I can’t enroll at Hogwarts next semester.
The Bottom Line: Anyone who wants to stay on top of pop culture in the early 21st century will have to see this movie.
Review: Six Harry Potter fans went to see the movie on opening day. Our group consisted of four women and two men, all at least middle age, all but two have read the first book (or more). All of us loved the movie and the two who hadn’t read the book agreed...

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone DVD: Witches, Wizards, and Giants; oh my!(Epic Adventure W/O)

by   Rock_On ,  Jun 28, 2002
Pros: everything about it, it's just a wonderful movie with a wonderful storyline
Cons: none
The Bottom Line: A good adaptation to the Harry Potter books.
Review: First and foremost, I’d like to think Jeremy1456 for inviting me to this “Epic Adventure W/O” where you can write about anything that’s “epic” in some way. Whether it be a video game such as Eternal Darkness, a movie like...

Harry Potter is Satan and Encourages Witchcraft

by   phungus ,  Nov 21, 2001
Pros: Awesome special effects, soundtrack, etc
Cons: Really violent for a kids movie
The Bottom Line: Harry Potter is a modern day Luke Skywalker, with a wand instead of a light sabre.
Review: Harry Potter is the work of the devil. He carries the mark of Satan on his forehead. These stories encourage children to explore witchcraft and to turn away from God. We should burn all the Harry Potter books and ban the English from making movies...

There's Something Magical About Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

by   dashblast ,  Feb 23, 2002
Pros: Wonderful story. Great acting. Great directing. Just plain phenomenal.
Cons: The movie's duration: too long for some people.
The Bottom Line: One of the best movies I've ever seen. It's beautiful, and it's absolutely satisfying to watch. One of the best decisions I've ever made was watching this.
Review: I know this review is exceedingly belated, but when I saw that amazon.com was already accepting preorders for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, I was reminded about the phenomenon that is Harry Potter. Just so we’re all clear, I saw the preorder...

Cons: None at all.
The Bottom Line: Harry Potter - The Sorcerer‘s Stone has the best special effects and the attention to detail is stupendous. I recommend for ages 5 and up.

YAHOO - Yet Another Harry Original Opinion!

by   Joubert ,  Nov 16, 2001
Pros: The film lives up to its hype; an instant classic...
Cons: ...with a long run time and crowds in the early days.
The Bottom Line: Destined to take its place among our best loved movies. See it on the big screen at least once.
Review: Harry Potter joins Dorothy, George Bailey and Luke Skywalker in the pantheon of cinema icons with today’s release of Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone. Even children who have not read the story will be quickly enthralled by Chris Columbus’ faithful...
