A Golf Show I Actually Enjoyed.....

As a fan of the wit and humor that Adam Sandler brings to the entertainment world, I would consider this to be a classic. Happy Gilmore begins with Adam Sandler as a wanna be hockey player who is basically a loser. His grandmother gets her belongings and house taken away by the government because she owes $270,000 in back taxes. Happy sets out on a mission to gather the funds to get Grandma's house back. In the meantime, she is placed in a retirement home, featuring Ben Stiller as the evil aide. I must say that Stiller plays an excellent part in this movie as the stomach turning, elderly using con-artist.

Happy takes a bet from two moving men that he can't hit a golf ball further than one of them. When they see that he can hit the ball over 400 yards, they are amazed, and tell him how awesome he is. From winning this bet, he begins to put on bets at the local driving range and collects more money. Then he is approached by a former golf pro named Chubs who insists that Happy give up hockey and take up golf. Happy refuses in his own amusing ways, until he hears that there is BIG money to be made in the Pro Tour. What more push could he possibly need to change his sport?

Happy starts off in the amateur tour, knowing that if he could win it, he would guarantee a spot on the upcoming pro tour. He shows up in his grungy clothing, with his hot head temper and unusual golf style and takes the golf world by surprise by winning this event. This guarantees him the pro tour spot and he begins working with Chubs to improve his behavior and his style. Along the way, Happy has Pro Winnings Leader, Shooter McGavin to compete against and Shooter is determined to put an end to Happy's success.

Happy recruits a bum for a caddy, gets run over by a Volkswagen driven by a lunatic, gets sprayed by grounds sprinklers on the 9th Green at 9pm, wins the heart of the Pro Tour PR Rep, and becomes quite an attraction for all of the golf fans. These scenes are ever so amusing.

Finally, Happy wins enough money on the tour to get Grandma's house back, but when he goes to pay for it, the auction on the home is beginning! With the intent of bidding all that he has, Happy sets forward in his goal to retrieve the house. However, Shooter is there and he has other plans. He intends to outbid Happy and taunt him by telling him that "Grandma will be my new help at my new house!" Indeed, Shooter wins the house by outbidding Happy, but sets forth the challenge, that if Happy wins the Championship, and the Gold Jacket, then he can have the house.

Happy Gilmore is as determined as ever to win back the house and he struggles through the final event. There are challenges, there are obstacles, and then there is Shooter... Will he stop Happy from the win or will Happy overcome? You just have to watch the movie!!!!

There are a few bits of foul language spread throughout the movie, although not nearly as harsh as many of today's movies. The movie is one of the great comedy classics and sure to arouse a great many laughs. Even those who aren't golf fans, myself included, can find amusement in this film. I highly recommend it, especially if you already like Adam Sandler and his style of entertainment.

You will laugh out loud just like I did. You will get frustrated at the bad guy(s). You will sympathize with Happy's cause and cheer him on. It's a movie full of emotions just waiting to be released!

The movie is rated PG-13 and does have some language as I mentioned before. There is also some sexual comedy.

Run time is approximately 92 minutes.

As a sidenote: Happy Gilmore was the first movie to win an MTV award for the best "fight scene."
