It's better than the book. Unfortunately, that's not saying much...

Date of Review:  Feb 10, 2001
The Bottom Line: It's not scary. It's not suspenseful. It's just trying to gross you out. Watch The Cook, the Thief, his Wife and her Lover instead.
Review: Some people never learn. I know I don?t. After plowing through Hannibal, the novel, I swore I wouldn?t give another penny to Thomas Harris and the Hannibal Lecter enterprise. Although I truly enjoyed The Silence of the Lambs and Red...

the end of the Hannibal Lecter trilogy: Ridley Scott's visually brave Hannibal

Date of Review:  Feb 9, 2001
The Bottom Line: beautiful and visually brave - a grotesque funhouse ride that ends, unfortunately, with an appeal for wider acceptance.
Review: Ridley Scott?s nailed it.

He?s recreated the dark fugue state of Thomas Harris? grimoire Hannibal, and done so with the appropriate level of grotesquerie. It?s a cinematic geek tent ? slide that nine bucks over to the querulous carbuncular...

Cannibal Lecter strikes again, this time with an appetite for brains

Date of Review:  Apr 10, 2001
The Bottom Line: Hannibal is a haunting unique movie that uses gross-out tactics to horrify the audience. However it's lack of ending makes it bad.
Review: Is grossing out the same as scare? Did I flinch in this movie because of an unexpected shock, or was my stomach churning instead from the movie? Apparently director Ridley Scott thought that grossing out and scaring people are the same.

I got your Fava Beans and Chianti RIGHT HERE!

Date of Review:  Feb 21, 2001
The Bottom Line: Hannibal is not Silence Of The Lambs, Hannibal should not be rated on the standard set by memories of an older film
Review: Hannibal opened on the 9th of February to enormous crowds, showing after showing sold out, and yet, this film had nowhere near the hype of Star Wars, the Phantom Menace. It just goes to show, real acting by Anthony Hopkins can eat Jar Jar Binks and...

Deliciously Twisted

Date of Review:  Feb 10, 2001
The Bottom Line: You'll love it, or hate it. Just be sure to see it.
Review: Hannibal is without a doubt one of those films that will have audiences divided. And I mean big time. Many will be part of the majority, who absolutely hate this film. Or you may be like me, and you'll absolutely love it. My point is, you have to...

B-movie struts through town and few are willing to say it's got no clothes--Hannibal

Date of Review:  Sep 3, 2001
The Bottom Line: It's only value comes from Hopkins. Otherwise it is a dressed up B-movie with no suspense. It doesn't even know why Silence was good.
Review: I was so turned off to the idea of this movie, that it took until now for me to see it. Which is to say that my wife (who loved Silence of the Lambs) finally became rather insistent. As we stood in the local video store, she again expressed her...

A Second Serving of Hannibal the Cannibal

Date of Review:  Feb 8, 2001
The Bottom Line: Won't win any Oscars, but strong performances and over the top chills make for a good movie, nonetheless. Warning - enough gore to please Mike_Bracken.
Review: Hannibal the Cannibal will devour the competition in the box office this weekend. Anthony Hopkins reprises the role that won him a Best Actor in Silence of the Lambs, and he does an excellent job with it. He clearly enjoys the character, and that's...

Throwing Down the Gauntlet of Gore

Date of Review:  Feb 14, 2001
The Bottom Line: This movie is likely to be the most disturbing, disgusting film you've ever seen. Despite the technical skill and talents herein, save yourself the mental, emotional, and psychological abuse.
Review: The Appetizer

Let me jump to the heart of the matter: Hannibal is the most disturbing movie I have ever seen. And it played itself out in a manner and direction that left me not only troubled, but yearning for a dash of the expected. I...

Review: Hannibal (2001)

Ridley Scott's Hannibal evokes strong emotions in most people that have seen it, negative or positive. Judging from the...

HANNIBAL'S HUNGRY AGAIN!

Date of Review:  Jan 30, 2001
The Bottom Line: Is this highly anticipated sequel as good as the original? No. Is it worth seeing? Yes.
Review: Terrifying, tantalizing Hannibal Lecter is ba-a-a-ck! In this long-awaited sequel to "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991), Anthony Hopkins reprises his Oscar-winning role of Hannibal the Cannibal. "I have been in a state of hibernation for some time,"...
