Haier HDT18PA 17 in. Built-in Dishwasher

Please do not buy this brand if you are looking for a compact dishwasher. We bought this because we hate doing dishes by hand, but this dishwasher was more trouble than it was worth. It does come with a 1 year warranty from Haier, but trust me, you are going to need that.

Our dishwasher broke down 4 times in 1 year. Despite living in a large city, the nearest authorized repair shop was over an hour away. Lugging a heavy appliance back and forth regularly was not fun.

The person authorized by Haier to make the repairs thought that Haier compact dishwashers were very unreliable and often completely unrepairable. Fortunately our WAS repairable, but that didn't help when it broke down again 1 week after the warranty expired. That's when we found out it would cost almost as much to repair the machine as it would to by a new one. With all the trouble I had, I ended up washing most of the dishes by hand anyway.

On the plus side, the Customer service people I talked to were friendly. Also, when it worked, it did an OK job at dishes, although I found that I had to wash anything moderately or heavily soiled by hand. Even with the "heavy" cycle, it wasn't able to handle many things.
