Author's Review
I'm coming from a 1994 Ranger 4x4 which just about fell apart from all the rust and corrosion underneath. I wanted another pickup for I am a big time sportsman but also thought having something fully enclosed (a cap doesn't count) and took a look at the Hyundai's as their warranty is the best in the business and you see tons of them on the road! Plus, I can also buy a hitch and a hitch hauler for my outdoor activities.
I planned on the Santa Fe with the big 3.5 litre V6. After sitting in a Santa Fe, I realized there is no leg room for the driver (unless you are 5'4" tall) plus not a whole lot of head room for a tall guy like myself! The salesman talked me into taking a peek at the new Tucsons. I loved it immediately!
By looking at the vehicles from the outside, one would assume there would be small interior space. Not the case! The Tucson has a very large and comfortable interior with a bunch of leg and head room. The cargo area is a bit on the small side with the back seats up but once I fold them down, I have as much room as I did with my Ranger! The seats are adjustable four separate ways and are very comfortable. The interior controls are well laid out and easily accessible.
The model I purchased is the GLS with the 2.7 liter V6. It is full time four wheel drive with 90% of the power driving through the front wheels and 10% on the back. There is a button to go 50/50 as well. The vehicle also has traction control standard which applies braking for you if the vehicles becomes unstable while driving through corners, etc., four wheels discs with ABS, and a shift-tronic automatic tranny. The traction control can be turned off if need be if you are so inclined to do so. The shift-tronic tranny is cool because it can be shifted like a manual tranny by pushing the shift lever to the right and shifting yourself. The truck came with 16 inch aluminum rims and BF Goodrich 235/60 tires.
The truck drives super nice. It's smooth, quiet, handles great, and the 2.7 has nice pickup and pulls as good as my 4.0 in the Ranger! Gas mileage is about 19 city and 24 highway.
Other standard equipment on this model is: a/c, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, factory alarm, windshield wiper heater, rear window defogger, rear wiper, AM/FM-CD-MP3-Cassette radio with six speakers, six airbags (two front and four side curtain bags), roof rack, dual exhaust.
Man, I am 110% happy thus far with this vehicle! It is a very tight and well put together SUV.
