Product Review

Michaels back at his best.

by   thebigfan ,   Apr 1, 2002

Pros:  Jackson has made a comeback with this one.

Cons:  The last two songs on the second CD.

The Bottom Line:  If you didn't like this album then you should buy Dangerous, it is Michael Jacksons best album. HIStory is very good though.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

Michael Jackson is such an inventure of sound, such a great accomplished musician all in his own right, and without doubt the greatest song writer and singer the world has ever seen.
The album HIStory is a 30 track two CD set. On CD is Michaels success from the first track Billie Jean to the last track Heal the World. The first CD is 15 tracks summerising his glourius career in the music industry.
The second CD, which should have been released as an album on its own instead of a double pack, this would then have enabled Michael to pack alot more far greater songs onto a two CD greatest hits pack rather then onto one CD.
The second CD, is Jackson rant and anger after the press publishing and taunting him about his peadofillia, this is well-known by Michael fans to be untrue but others who don't understand the man just like to slag the King Of Pop.

The second CD, the tracks:-

Scream - 10/10

A fantastic pounding opener, with a great massive beat and a good chorus. Michael duets with sister Janet on this fast and furious track, both sing fantastically. There is a bad word half way through the track but it is sung with such depth that it works. A superb opener making you feel that Jackson is back!

They Don't Care About Us - 10/10

Really Michael should have put in another superb pounding tune hear because you are left hungry after scream for more of the same superb tunes. This track though however, is a global chant talking about the press not caring about us. It is catchy and Michael sings well again. And also this song really makes you wanna spread your arms and chant along with it out in the street.

Stranger In Moscow - 10/10

This song is reminicent to 'Who Is It' in the way of the eerie beat and the superb chorus, this is one which is a true classic on the album and sounds better everytime it is played. Michaels voice is cold and frosty on this track and the whole feel is magical.

This Time Around - 9/10

Six beats start off this head bopper but with a difference. Michael's lyrics are good but the way he sings them aren't, it is still a great song with a brilliant hook (chorus). The production isn't that good as you have to turn it up slightly louder then the other tracks previous to get a good feel from this track.

Earth Song - 10/10

This is Michael's plead to the world, telling us that we are spoiling the earth and how it is bleeding, he starts off asking questions softly before exploding at the end to produce a classic. This song is a favourite at parties as people love to get into the caring mood, Michael produces a great vocal and musical performance on this track.

DS - 8/10

A monster groove is in this track with good guiture work, but there is two problems, (1) the music comes in early at the beginning and then stops which could have been deleted in the production and (2) The chorus is very good but is over repeated. Still a groovey track.

Money - 10/10

I love this track, personally this track means alot to me, and it does for Michael. The versus are rapped by Michael and then the fabulous hook come in, the ending also is top notch. The one thing I could mention that is wrong with this track is that it can be dull in places and also it is a bit too slow for my liking.

Come Together - 7/10

The problem with covering a great bands song is that it is hard to make a better song then the original, Michael has done here and done it well, I just can't stand the song.

You Are Not Alone - 9/10

A beautiful track with Michael singing out of this world, his voice songs fresh and crisp, it has no cracks and he sounds emotionally superb, the chorus is good also. If you feel in the romantic mood, put this on and make love for hours. The songs a tad too long.

Childhood - 10/10

This track is all about how Michael never had a childhood, he sounds like a child in this song, just crying to be normal, and wishing he could feel how a child does about pirates and christmas. Michaels falsetto makes the hairs on the back of my head stand on end in this track. The lyrics in the falsetto are, 'the people say I'm not ok, coz I love, such elementry things! Wonderful!

Tabloid Junkie - 10/10

Michael is spitting angry lyrics into the microphone on this track on the verus, then the hook comes in and it is one of the best chorus' I have ever heard, really good, 'Just because you read in a magazine or see it on a T.V screen don't make it factual. Brilliant.

2Bad - 10/10

A monster of a track, with a really good beat and a fantastic chorus and good finish as well. This is how I like to hear Michael this is MJ at his best. Although you cannot dance to this track as well as what you would have liked to. The beat is futuristic and infact sounds like 'another part of me' but is just not danceable enough.

HIStory - 9/10

I like the history sections from the past but I think it takes far too long to get into the song, which is a shame because the song itself is ace, but this is a towering musical achievement in my eyes but just too long in some areas.

Little Suzie - 6/10

The choir singing at the beginning is too long and so is the samples of the girl singing whilst playing. The first verse is good, but the song is far to theatrical for my liking.

Smile - 7/10

This is not a bad song but it has a strange beat, the singing again from Michael is good and the whistling at the end reminds you of an old man wearing a hat walking down a dirty street at night, he being the only happy man to smile around.

To truely make the main thrust of this album work is to play it incredibly loud, you would then not only get every sound possible, but the emotion and monsteriousness in alot of the songs will become apparant.
The last two tracks should have been monsterious, they should have been replaced but superb sounding dancey R&B numbers that Michael can produce and that is what the fans are looking for. The album is 77mins which I like, I can't stand album which are like 40mins, to me they show lack of creativity and writing ability, Michael likes to push the album to the limit and he does it well here. If you didn't like this album then you should buy Dangerous, it is Michael Jacksons best album.
BUY THIS ALBUM OR REGRET IT, THERE IS BOUND TO BE SOMETHING ON IT YOU LIKE.
