Author's Review
As a firm believer in the Second Amendment, and as a responsible firearm owner, I like to read about the many products available for self defense and hunting. There are plenty of magazines that cover the first category of firearms ownership, but the best one of all is Guns and Ammo. It has been around for years, and it always has the most up to date information, about subjects related to marksmanship and firearms training. It is published on a monthly basis, and I've been able to subscribe to it for $13 a year. This is the premier gun owners/enthusiasts publication, and its quite a deal for this little amount of money.
The primary subject matter of this magazine, is semi automatic pistols. Whether you prefer a 9 mm, .40, .45, or .357 sig, you'll find plenty of information on your favorite caliber. If you are a "Glock Person," as I am, you'll be more than happy with all of the articles on the manufacturer and all of its innovative products. They've extensively covered all of the Glock tests in here, and have had a lot of information about their fairly new Slimline Series. A lot of other publications do too much stroking for domestic firearm manufacturers, while ignoring foreign company offerings. Guns and Ammo does not fall into this category, and they are more than happy to include articles about a lot of these other firearms.
In addition to having lots of articles on the manufacturers and their products, I like their self defense training features. They are accurate, and while they cannot provide a novice with the training that an academy or the military can, you can get some outstanding ideas of how to protect yourself in a tactical situation. There are plenty of pictures and diagrams to illustrate different steps, and they give you examples that you can try at home.(Without the gun loaded, preferably!) Some of their combat firearms moves/techniques, have been gleaned directly from law enforcement training books.
If you like to read product reviews, there are some excellent ones in this magazine. I've found them to be extremely accurate as well, and they don't seem to be biased towards any of the manufacturers. Guns and Ammo has reviewed firearms, bullets, tactical clothing, and protective equipment, in each of their monthly issues. My only real complaint about the reviews, is that they tend to review items that are out of the price range, of many firearm owners. I'd like to see more about pistols in the $600 and under range, instead of reviews about the ultra expensive Kimbers that cost well in excess of a thousand dollars. While they are nice,(I've shot their .45's at my local range)most interested in target shooting or self defense won't require one of these beautiful guns.
Final Thoughts
Guns and Ammo is the best magazine about firearms. Their articles are interesting and informative, and I've never had any problems with issue delivery. I will be re-subscribing to it in a few months, and I look forward to each month's issue. They are kind enough to offer a lot of variety in each one, and they aren't "loaded" with too many advertisements. Each issue is around 100 pages, and its the best place to find practical information about products and in practicing with firearms. You cannot go wrong with this publication, and I recommend it to everyone I know.
