excellent juicer
Date of Review: May 24, 2005
The Bottom Line: I'm very happy with this product. I wanted the best juice possible and that is what I got.
First of all let me start out by saying I agree with the previous opinion that this juicer isn't too great for soft juicy things (for example fresh rip tomatoes) But there are a couple of ways around that.
#1 you want to alternate juicy stuff with hard stuff. For example you put a tomato in, then a carrot, then a tomato then a celery, or something like that. It works pretty well but the other thing you can do is:
#2 you can freeze soft juicy fruits such as tomatoes and then it will go through more smoothly.
I just received this machine and I'm very very pleased with the juice quality. I had a Breville Juice Fountain before and I returned it for a full refund because it would airate and oxidize the juice. The froth was unbelievable not only causing the juice to last much less but also ruining the flavor and the texture was gritty.
This green power machine produced just the slightest thin layer of froth that was no problem at all. The juice quality is the best i've ever had bar none. I normally season my juice drinks with a little black and white pepper, worscheshire (did i spell that right?) sauce and horseradish but when I tasted the juice out of this machine it didn't seem to need any seasoning at all! It had a strong enough taste that it was unnecssary.
Also I hate pulp in my juice and this juicer was completely pulp free. I don't even know why they include a strainer, I didn't need it there was nothing to strain. Of course that's probably because I used the fine mesh and not the coarse one. I'll try the coarse one next and see how that works.
So bottom line if you're like me and you can't stand pulp and or froth in your juice, yet you want high quality nutrient rich juice. Or if pulp is ok you can use the coarse mesh I suppose. And you don't mind spending the price premium this machine costs, then this is the machine for you.
Those are the pros. Here are the cons: It's a real pain in the !@@$ to clean! I think the masticating single auger types are easier to clean. Since I don't own one however I cannot comment on their juice quality. I'm sure it's not better than this because this is pretty much prefect juice, but if it were near this quality I might consider it strongly because the other con I have with The Green Power is it's price. I paid over $400 when the single auger can be had for $259.
Although I did get the gold model and not the regular one. The two are identical except the gold model comes with pasta maker attachments.
But I heard the single auger types produce more pulp that these triturating (twin gear) and like I said before I wanted pulp free juice, or at least the choice of pulp free or pulpy, as this machine does give you that choice with the 2 different screens.
Ok I think I rambled a bit much but I wish I had detaied reviews to read when I was selecting one. Hopefully I helped someone out there decide between all these different juicers on the market.
Bottom line if you don't mind the price this juice is the best I've tried.
