Quiet, efficient, good performance, others negative ok for me
Date of Review: Jul 22, 2007
The Bottom Line: This dehumidifier is quiet, efficient, and a solid performer. The unit works well. Controls are easy to operate. The drainpan complaints others have made I feel are easily avoidable.
I have had my CFM-40 dehumidifier for 2 weeks now. It is very quiet and seems to remove the air moisture well. I have many trees outside and live in the Atlanta suburbs. This area is very humid due to the fact that Stone Mountain is about 5 miles away, causing many afternoon summer showers. So I am pleased with the units performance and low wattage efficiency. I have no problem emptying the drainpan as long as I do not let it get more than 3/4 full.
Once I let the drainpan get filled to where the unit automatically stopped running until the pan was emptied. I carefully carried the unit outside before I removed the pan so I wouldn't slosh water onto my carpet. I was successful with this and poured the water into my ivy patch. So if you monitor the levels of the water in the drain pan, carrying and emptying into the kitchen sink is no problem.
I also only wait about 10 minutes after I shut the unit down to let the final drips off the condenser catch in the pan and haven't had any mess or problem. So as long as the unit doesn't break prematurely, I am quite happy with the item. I paid $181.00 which included shipping from an ebay vendor (July/07). Since the unit is inside and backup to my central air I feel that I will get good performance from the unit. I turn the unit off overnight, so the unit gets a chance to cool down each night. I run the unit about 16 hours per day at this current summer month. I have not had to deal with customer service. I did call the technical phoneline to find out if the wattage of the unit is reduced at the low or medium settings. I was told that the wattage is the same at all settings due to the compressor operation at each different setting. The lower settings seem to only effect the intake fan speed and noise level of the unit. I only run the unit on high as it is very quiet on this speed and I want best performance. The unit has some small plastic wheels to roll around from room to room, but I have wall to wall carpets, so have found it is easier to carry the 32 (plus H2O) pounds when I move the unit. Of course I would empty the drainpan before moving if the pan was over 1/3 full. This is my first dehumidifier so I cannot compare it to another brand, but this unit uses the least wattage and is the quietest from my internet research. It is performing well and I am pleased.
