I Live In A Dry Home!!
Date of Review: Apr 9, 2007
The Bottom Line: I say you buy this! It's quiet, it works, and if you don't mind the trouble of dumping, in my opinion, it's worth it!
My experience with this product is one of extreme pleasure. I purchased this dehumidifier because I had a problem on the lower level of my home. I live in a condo and my lower level is on a concrete slab. During the spring, fall, or whenever it rains I have a problem with room dampness. so much so, that when you walk on the carpet, you leave a footprint and your feet are damp. My lower level has an open floor plan and in total, the area is about 26x22.
When I first got the item I plugged it in and it started right away. There seemed to be no problem with it, and I could immediately feel a difference in the humidity of the room. However, 16 hours later, there was very little water collected in the holding tray and my carpet was still damp. I had previously read another review where someone said they plugged it in and it never worked so I was afraid I had a lemon on my hands. However, a few hours later, I figured it out. According to what I read about this I thought that I could run it on low or medium and enjoy the extremely quiet operation but I saw that in my case, more effort was necessary. I put the machine on high, and a few hours later, it was ALL good!! My floor was dry and the feeling of dampness was completely gone!
PLEASE believe the advertising. This unit is MUCH quieter than others I have used in the past. Even on high, the sound is no louder than a ceiling fan or some other type of fan. I am a writer and I need quiet when I work. I can have this on and it does not disturb me one bit! Also, if you are luckier than I and can keep your unit on low, you can barely hear it at all!! I do not have to empty the water chamber very often, no more than once in a 24-hour period. Finally, even though my room is large, it works wonderfully. I am SO glad I did not spend more money to buy a larger unit!
The water collection tank is very awkward to dump. There is no handle or any other way to comfortably carry the tank; so I find myself teetering across a large expanse of carpet with a bucket full of water hoping not to spill before I can dump it. If you can drain the water instead, you will be better off than I.
