Author's Review
Now, some people will disagree with me on this because some will say that Richard Marx is a has-been or has fallen off the face of the earth...NOT SO!!! Richard fans across the world will agree with me on this as well. I will warn, however, being a die-hard fan, this review will be biased, but hey it's my opinion. Now, on to the review.
I have all of Richard's albums, and I have to say the Greatest Hits CD is the best of the bunch. This 16-track compilation combines all five of his albums (Richard Marx, Repeat Offender, Rush Street, Paid Vacation, Flesh and Bone) and one additional from the For Our Children CD (Angel's Lullaby - a great song to sing to/play for your children). This is a GREAT CD...it's got everything...from Rock (Don't Mean Nothing, Satisfied, Should've Known Better), Soul (The Way She Loves Me, Keep Coming Back, Touch of Heaven), For Charitable Causes (Children of the Night), and Ballads (Angelia, Until I Find You Again, Now and Forever, Hold on to the Nights, and Richard's ever famous Right Here Waiting). There's also an Asian version of this CD that includes two excellent songs, Slipping Away and Thanks to You (a great song Richard wrote for his mom...it brings tears to my eyes), however Satisfied and Touch of Heaven are not included on this version.
You never get tired of listening to this CD because it's that good. Richard has written, or produced all of his music, so you know it's coming from the heart. In Richard's liner notes on each track, he's written up a few notes on each of the songs on how he came to produce, write or release that song. He dedicated this compilation to the memory of his father whose life was cut short because of an automobile accident. It's so good, you can listen to it ANYTIME of the day or night, while driving in your car, at work...this CD makes you feel good. Personally, each song has a significant memory for me, or is special in some way. Not to mention the array of guest appearances on some of the tracks (Lionel Richie and Luther Vandross on The Way She Loves Me, Luther again on Keep Coming Back, and Richard's long time friend, Bruce Gaitisch, who plays a great acoustic guitar).
If you're a Richard Marx fan, and don't have this CD, SHAME ON YOU!!!! Get off your computer and go buy this CD!!! For any non Richard Marx fans, listen to it once and I promise there will be at least ONE song on this CD that will convince you the man is good!!!
