Author's Review
I don't claim to be an expert in audio equipment, but I would like to think that I have good judgement on the matter. I have Bose speakers, some of the better computer speakers, and now arguably a set of the best headphones on the market.
I am nothing less than astonished at the sound produced by the Grado SR225s. The bass is on par with the 8" subwoofer I have with my computer speakers. Well, the bass doesn't shake the ground, but they are headphones after all. The highs are high, and can seem overwhelming with the right kind of music. Although, this can be adjusted to the listeners preference if there is an equalizer, or bass/treble controls. I actually don't use the Grados with any adjustments, and they sound extremely nice. Bass can be shallow with some music, but if you put the right music on the bass can be mind shaking. It is very full and, like I said before, is on par with an 8" subwoofer as far as the range is concerned. The 225s handle lows with exceptional response, not missing anything. They even sound better if there are a lot of mids. Also, with the right music you can have a sound experience as if you are right there as the music is performed. I have a live album that sends chills down my spine because of the crowd that is recreated around you.
My only complaint, and not much of one, is the lack of real comfort with the headphones. They fit nice, but can make your ears sore after extended use. However, they feel better once you have worn them for a long time.
If you want great headphones and plan on retaining them for years to come, these headphones are probably one of the best buys out there. I plan on keeping these things for the rest of my life, and really don't see a need to find anything "better", ever. Unless for some reason they become obsolete, which they won't, I see no reason to buy another set of headphones. Okay, so maybe I'll need to buy another pair for my wife or something...
