A most versatile piece of equipment
Date of Review: Feb 8, 2000
I have to say that the Graco Bassinet Pack & Play was one of the best purchases we made when our first child was born. We were given, as a shower gift, a regular bassinet, which we used in our bedroom until I was ready to let him go to his own room, at about 5 months. But we knew we'd be needing a playpen soon, and wanted a versatile model that could double as a travel bassinet or crib. This was a very good pick.
This is an excellent play pen, albeit a smaller space than some. It's lightweight, and with the casters on one end, easily moved from one spot to another. An advantage to the smaller play area was that the baby felt more secure in a smaller area. He would get anxious and fussy if I put him out on a blanket in the middle of the room, but was always content in the Pack & Play, with a few toys around him. I'm happy to say he grew out of that phase, but I guess it's part and parcel of prematurity.
This Pack & Play has been most valuable to us as a travel crib, also. The bassinet is sturdy, and easily assembled. The babies always slept comfortably in it, and there was never a danger of them falling through the bottom, which is what happened recently to my 17-month old in a portable crib used in a motel.
Sometimes it is a little difficult to lock or unlock the rails of the Pack & Play. But there are instructions printed on the inside of the liner for such situations. We never struggle with it for very long. But this is minor compared with all the great assets of this piece of equipment. I would recommend this model to any new or expectant parents as well worth the money.
