Product Review

Does the job

by   theknabs ,   Mar 12, 2005

Pros:  easy to install/use, comfortable for infant, non-skid, "rocker" bottom, variety of patterns, additional base

Cons:  heavy, awkward handling, infant headrest too small, matching stroller is heavy & awkward

The Bottom Line:  Overall, I recommend this product. However, give it careful consideration if you want an easier travel system or stroller to snap it into.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

I originally was living abroad in the Cayman Islands, so it was difficult to pick out baby gear via research on the internet. However, I registered for the Sterling 7425 travel system in Clarion print because it was a light print and I didn't want it to fade in the strong sunlight. If I had the money, I would do things differently now that I am back in the states...I would get a "snap 'n go" for the carseat and think about & research a stroller for when my child is the appropriate age (she's 2 months old now). Here is my detail of pros and cons:

Pros
* easy to install (we were able to read directions and use it easily; this is a plus since this was our first baby and were intimidated by the whole carseat thing)
* easy to snap in a sleeping infant (so that she continues to sleep!)
* comfortable for infant to sleep deeply in it
* non-skid bottom
* bottom of seat is curved so you can "rock" infant
* comes in a variety of patterns; light print good for strong sunlight (won't fade)
* you can purchase additional bases for cars (we only have one car but if we had two, this would be a definite plus over purchasing a whole second carseat)

Cons
* heavy
* handle makes carrying it awkward (seems that the carseats with the 'S' curved handles might make it easier to carry at your side)
* infant headrest was a little too large for my baby (easily corrected by purchasing a different headrest as every infant is different)
* the matching travel system stroller rides like a Cadillac but is VERY heavy and bulky

Overall, this was a good product and highly rated for safety. My biggest problem with it was that it was on the heavy side and awkward to carry since I had a c-section. I have gotten used to it and don't see any point in spending money to purchase a different carseat just for this reason. Maybe my issues would have been solved if I had only been able to shop for this product in person in a store. I recommend that you shop for it in person rather than via the internet.
