Product Review

There is a reason carriers stop at 22 pounds!

by   jrmo ,   Jul 21, 2008

Pros:  Harness Straps, Stationary Base, Sunshade

Cons:  HEAVY

The Bottom Line:  Overall, a good seat, but opt for one of the smaller versions. The extra weight limit really wasn't useful in my opinion.

Overall Rating: 3/5 stars

Author's Review

First of all, let me begin by saying that this is a safe seat. It is a typical award winning Graco seat. The five point harness fastens securely across your baby and the latch compatible base is secure. One thing I don't like about Graco's seats though is that the front of the base is not attached to anything and as such, can wiggle around. In an accident, it can come up and increase the "rebound" felt by your baby. That said, this is a minor concern, in my opinion and this seat meets all government safety standards. The sunshade is helpful for keeping baby from the sun or encouraging a nap. My biggest complaint with this seat though is the weight. Yes, it accommodates larger babies and nearly all babies until 1 year which is the MINIMUM for turning babies around. This recommendation has since been modified and pediatricians now recommend putting a child in a rear facing convertible until the maximum weight of it is met. Back to the matter at hand, though. This thing weighs a TON! I would guess at least 4-5 pounds more than a traditional Graco seat that goes to twenty two pounds. Add to that a larger child and I guarantee you will stop using this seat LONG before your child's first birthday! It works perfectly fine if you're planning to leave it in the car and not remove it from the base. We used it on a trip with our petite 18 month old and it was great, because heavy as it was, it was smaller than her Marathon.
