Product Review

Good stroller...but I wouldn't buy it again.

by   calimommy ,   Apr 4, 2008

Pros:  Built with parents in mind; great value; great color choices; very roomy back seat.

Cons:  Basket difficult to access; gives 80 lb limit, but hard to maneuver at >60 lbs.

The Bottom Line:  A great buy for those on a budget, and one of the few companies with very trendy colors. Competition for several more expensive brands, but still has its cons.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

While this stroller does what it was designed to do, it's along the lines of buying a Honda versus buying a Lexus. Simply put - you're buying a practical stroller at a reasonable cost.

I bought this stroller when my two children were 21 months and 9 months. I was six months pregnant with my third child at the time, but I opted for a double stroller since the triple options were WAY too bulky and I was almost always with someone who could either push a single stroller, or could "Bjorn" a child. I brought the stroller home and was able to assemble it myself with very little difficulty. The instructions were pretty clear for those who have a general sense of what they're doing. Do be careful, though, because there are random little pieces involved! Here are a few specs about the stroller, from a mother who uses it SEVERAL times a week:

STORAGE:
The stroller comes with very adequate storage space. The large basket underneath extends the length of both seats. So, while there is plenty of basket, its not all easily accessible. There is a feature to drop the basket down and reach into the back of the stroller, but the medal bar its attached to stays in place so your still confined to a small access space. The top part has a cup holder and a little compartment for keys and a cell phone. My single Graco has two cupholders, so downsizing to one was a little frustrating. However, there are mesh pockets on the side of the stroller which can house water bottles or other closed containers (baby bottles, etc.).

SEATING:
As the name implies, this is a double stroller so it does come with two seats. =) Unlike some competitors, these seats only face forward. No option to have the kids face each other. Both seats do recline: the front seat reclines once and only slightly, whereas the backseat reclines twice and can go down pretty far - enough for my now 4-month old to sleep comfortably. Both seats come with sun shades, as well as snack trays which are removable...a VERY nice convenience. Both seats also have a 5-point harness system. Again, a very nice convenience.

As far as the actual seats themselves, the front seat is pretty small, in regards to both the seat and the back. While my son prefers it because he can see things better, we usually transfer him to the back if he falls asleep because there is just no way he can comfortably sleep in the front seat. The back seat, on the other hand, is fairly large...especially for a double stroller. It's a semi-stadium-style set-up, so the back seat is positioned slightly higher than the front seat. This makes the ride a little more enjoyable for the child riding in the back seat. Also, there is ample leg room for the back seat rider, which was surprising.

CONVENIENCE
This is a double stroller, people, not a sports car. It's going to be a little bulkier than your single, and its going to be heavier to push because you've added another child. With that said, the stroller is as compact as you can expect from a double. It stands upright, which is really nice if you have a closet to store it in. I don't recommend leaving it out as it can easily tip if you have an active toddler playing around it. The nice thing about the tandem double is you can still push it through stores without tipping all the shelves over. But you must make sure you're not sipping a coffee when doing so, because the stroller DOES require both hands to steer if it is weighted down with two children.

I have a hard time believing there is a perfect stroller. With that said, this stroller does have a few cons. While unfolding the stroller is a breeze (consists of pulling down a little latch), folding it can be difficult. Not always, but it can be. Ideally you should be able to use one hand to twist pull a lever and twist the handle (similar to other Graco models), and the other hand to pull the stroller together. However, there are many prerequisites to having an easy fold: the front sun shade should be off or positioned very specifically, the back shade needs to be pulled back, the front tray should be off, the basket needs to be up with nothing inside it, the wheels need to be completely straight, and neither seats can be reclined. Also, the latch is made of plastic so I have a sneaking suspicion that it will eventually bend out of shape or break. Another negative is that, with both my toddlers sitting in it (total weight of 54 lbs...well under the 80 lb limit), the stroller squeaks when making turns. While I do use it quite frequently, I wasn't expecting this to happen in the 9 months I've had it.

Overall, a good buy for the price. It really is a GREAT deal for the price tag. But if you have the money to go with the more expensive and higher quality options, I would recommend doing so.
