An Eighties Classic

While this movie came out while I was growing up, I still find people quoting from this movie all the time. While it's editing job in the original VHS version has a few mistakes (including a bit of dialogue still in the movie which talks about scenes taken out of the movie for the final version), if this does come out on DVD with the omitted scenes it is bound to become a successful seller.
Part of the charm of this movie is the dialogue that comes from each character - each character has an utterly distinct persona and thus gives a different take on the situations that "the goonies" get themselves into. Even the relationship that is formed between the deformed man Sloth and fat-boy Chunk is a bit touching.
This movie is a cultural icon of the eighties - even including music from Cyndi Lauper during the movie and on the Soundtrack. The clothes, the slang, even the product placements in the movie are reminiscent of the 1980s. Yet, unlike the atmosphere of the period in which it was made, the characters actually feel hope for themselves the future, and that is the reason why they go on the search for treasure.
Ok, so analyzing this movie on a cultural level goes a bit beyond the point - the reason this movie is a classic is because we all loved it as children, and still find the jokes just as funny 15 years later.
