Pros: Great music built anew from a dozen genres/ eras. Expressive vocals. Smart, surprisingly uplifting lyrics.
Cons: The songs' power partly comes from the context of prior Modest Mouse.
The Bottom Line: Americans have always been confident complainers, ready to move or invent someplace new. Its our weakness, greatness, and charm. But we havent always sung of it so thoughtfully and courageously.
Review: While it disappoints me that only two of the first 25 Epinions on Modest Mouses Good News for People who Love Bad News give the album five stars, it intrigues me that no ones accusing it of being a sell-out. It _isnt_, of ...

A Modest Mouse, a Paradox of a Title, and a [insert holiday here] Miracle |
|||
|
Pros: Never sticks with a style for more than five minutes at a time
Cons: I get the impression that just a few people don't care for Isaac Brock's voice
The Bottom Line: Goodness. On any given day, any given song on this album might just be my favorite. Sounds like a classic to me.
Review: I don't care what holiday you're celebrating / have celebrated this time of year, whether it be Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Festivus, Boxing Day, or even Chrismukkah (because yes, the O.C. rocks, I can admit it, so can you) -- for most people, this ...

Pros: great flow between songs, diverse instrumentation, great sometimes-philosophical lyrics
Cons: a few low-point songs midway through
The Bottom Line: Despite criticism, this album is a great intro to indie music, and the whole is more than the sum of its parts.
Review: You may have heard a lot of things about this album. This is Modest Mouses most successful and accessible release yet. This has caused indie fans to label it their sell-out album. This claim stems simply from the fact that indie ...

Pros: Just the most fascinating album. Songs are random, but original. Great classics!
Cons: Cuss words, problem for young listeners but doesn't effect music at all.
The Bottom Line: Listen to the singles first to see if you approve, and buy it. Personally, I don't think you even have to listen to singles. Buy it!
Review: When the first single of "Good News for People Who Love Bad News" was released, which was "Float On," it was the first time I even heard of Modest Mouse. Not to mention that when I heard "Float On," it sparked a peck of interest. I had seen the music ...

Pros: A lot. Too many to list.
Cons: Takes a couple listens to get in to.
The Bottom Line: Buy this album now.
Review: I was first compelled to buy this album after hearing about it via one of my favorite webcomics Questionable Content. Well, me agreeing with the creator of QC on most music, I decided to check it out. So, the first time I put this in, my ...

Pros: Musical Diversity
Cons: Dance Hall, One chance, Blame it on the Tetons
The Bottom Line: Modest Mouse displays great musicinaship and diversity in a great album that you wont want to miss
Review: Isaac Brock (lyrics/guitar) Eric Judy (bass) Dann Gallucci (guitar organ and other weird things) Benjamin Weikel (drums) I first heard about Modest Mouse from one of my friends who worships punk music so when I saw the video for "Float On" I was ...

Pros: For the past 15 years I've only listened to singles - after this...never again.
Cons: One listen just wont work
Review: Listen to this only once and you have lost out on so much, you could well rate way up there with the man at Decca who said no to The Beatles. It's nuts, its fun, its music for anyone who loves to have a thought behind their smile. The Bright, ...

Pros: the music... the lyrics... modest mouse.
Cons: the people who complain about it.
Review: I don't care about what anybody else says about this album... it is awesome. I have been listening to Modest Mouse for a long time, and I am sick of people using the "selling out" complaint to explain the bands change in sound. So they changed a little ...

Modest Mouse Demands "You Tell Me What You Want" |
|||
|
Pros: Great pop music, some memorable tracks, slightly askew sense of humor
Cons: Maybe a bit too odd in places, some lackluster tracks
The Bottom Line: If you're looking for some high quality off center pop, why don't you check out Modest Mouse--you won't be disappointed.
Review: It has taken until now for me to realize that maybe music is headed in the right direction. Of course, I cant speak to the dire nature of mainstream songs and bands on radio and MTV without cringing, but as far as new albums go of the last year Ive ...

Modest Mouse: Good News For People Who Love Great Music! |
|||
|
Pros: Great music. What other pros do you need?
Cons: Great music. What other pros do you need?
The Bottom Line: On "Good News...", Modest Mouse prove themselves to be worthy of their breakout success this year. An offbeat, but gratifying listen.
Review: The one cool part of my job is that I bring home tons of free music. Honestly, I never listen to the majority of it. It's pretty difficult to dedicate yourself to hours of music listening-even when you have no life like me. Sometimes there has to be ...
