Product Review

Told you that I'd be here forever, took an oath I'ma stick it out

by jbrd , Sep 4, 2008

Pros: Fun, catchy music that made 2007 Rihanna's Year.

Cons: I didn't give the album a chance last year.

The Bottom Line: Even if you have purchased the previous release, I'm sure you're going to buy this one anyway.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I really hate myself. Last year, I reviewed Rihanna's Good Girl Gone Bad album and only gave it three stars. I never really gave the album a chance. One year later, the album was a major success which had Rihanna re-release the album with three extra songs and a DVD. Now, it seems like luck has turned my way as it has given me the chance to give the album another chance. The outcome? After multiple listens of the entire album, I found myself growing fond of the album. So you know I had to buy the Reloaded edition!

Not much has changed in the past year for this album except a few new additions. The Reloaded edition features three brand new songs; Take A Bow, Disturbia and Never See Your Face Again. All three have been released as singles for the Reloaded edition and all three have done quite well, especially Take A Bow. I really think Rihanna was really surprised how well Take A Bow did. It is a very simple song with meaningful and catchy lyrics. Never See Your Face Again done real well to, but I think they knew that this song was on fire when they made it! The electric guitar, the pulsating rock bass mixed with Rihanna and Adam's chemistry is what made this song that you'll definitely remember for years to come. It took me a while to like Disturbia, but now it is a catchy little dance tune that reeks of Rihanna. That is a good thing!

The DVD section of this release features four live performances from her sold-ouot tour and behind-the-scenes footage. It isn't much, however, but if they had included all the music videos from this release, it could have been an even more awesome package, don't you think?

Meanwhile, the new songs may have you dancing and singing along with, do not forget the other songs that had made this album one of the must-have albums of 2007. The smash hit, Umbrella is still one of my favorites and is forever THE song of 2007 to dance to. Rehab is forever burned in my head as being a very haunting song of deadly romance. The Sell Me Candy track is still a delicious piece that is hard not to dance to or sing to.

I have come to love more of this album over the past year. Such as the hits Don't Stop The Music and Shut Up And Drive. Both songs are insanely catching, especially Shut Up & Drive. I really can't believe that I didn't like these songs before as they are exactly what a hit track should be. Even the "man beating" Breakin' Dishes is becoming a guilty pleasure. I can't tell you how much I like this track. Push Up On Me is another track that is hard not to dance to or sing to. A lot of these songs like this I have come to love...

...while some songs I have loved before, now come to hate or have hated before and still hate now. I've always liked Question Existing, but now, it is a very stale piece that leaves a bad sound in your ear while Hate That I Love You is still on my sh*t list. I reallly don't understand why I still hate this song. Maybe it got too much radio play, which it was played to death!

Basically, Rihanna's Good Girl Gone Bad has gotten better. If you haven't purchased the previous one(which I'm sure everyone has), then by all means, get this one. The bonus tracks are definitely worth it and the DVD is a nice treat, even though music videos would have been appreciated as well. Get this! It's one of the albums of 2007!
